Then, unless they are priceless antiques and/or rare collectibles, I would recommend you shoot them at least once so you know how they feel and 'react' and how YOU 'react' when firing them in the event a situation arises that they are your firearm option(s) in a time of need.
Every firearm has its own 'personality'. Would be wise to at least take it on one date before depending on it to stick with you for life... Literally.

Not a knock on you op.. Just sad about the state of firearm knowledge in today's 'murrica'.

As far as the rifle itself, Educate yourself a bit before jumping in and investing. Watch youtube videos on basic operation and breakdown of a basic AR. Familiarize yourself with the operation of and maintenance of before purchase. Would hate for you to waste money on something that will collect dust in a soft case in your closet and be a foreign object to you in, god forbid, a moment of duress.

Do you own a handgun or any other firearm for self defense and/or hunting? just curious.
Again, please don't take it personally.
You'll read many recommendations that are worthy on here and a small few that aren't. Just do your homework.

No offense taken at all. I deserve it.

I do own a glock 17 that was my dad's for home protection and I also just bought a glock 43 to carry in my car. I got a concealed weapon permit about 3 months ago. Just thinking I would like to have another gun for home protection and just in case the shite hits the fan. I have been to the firing range a few times with a co-worker who is a retired police officer who has shown me how to properly use the glocks.

I just thought I would have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get an AR and wasn't sure if there was a waiting period.

I have been reading up over the past couple of days and initially was looking at the S&W Sport after watching a good bit of youtube videos. I will be the first to admit I do not know shite about AR's but everything I have read about the sport say it is a good AR for the money. It is just hard to believe it is basically the same price as my little glock 43.

Thanks for all of the help guys.

Check out Palmetto State Armory. Buy a lower and upper and put them together, there is nothing to it.

Ditto.
The M&P Sport 2 or the Ruger Ar556 are the best entry level ARs for the price. Cant go wrong w either

I didn't realize that. I thought there wasn't a wait for the pistol but anything else I would need it. I need the ODB's help obviously.

If I choose not to shoot some guns, why is it any concern of yours?

For a time, when buying guns I would buy two. I still have quite a few matching pairs and a few oddities that are also unfired.

To the OP, the smith is a great little entry level rifle. I'm not overly fond of the AR platform, but I have a few. My favorite is one I pieced together from all of the reject parts off of louisiana sportsman. I owned an M&P for a while (it was my first AR), but I sold it after some FTF issues.

In retrospect, it was likely due to poor ammo choices.

If you have kids or other people living in your house, I would think long and hard about planning to use an AR as a home defense gun.

Well then it will be a good option. If kids are in yalls future, do some reading on over penetration of an AR and why that makes it less suitable as a home defense gun for those with children or other people in the house.

Handguns and buckshot typically penetrate more cleanly and through more walls. It depends a lot on ammo selection. A zippy 55gr .223 round will typically break apart through the first wall and cause there to be less penetration through subsequent walls. Most defensive hand gun calibers will punch cleanly through several walls, as will buck shot.

Penetration = lethality. A projectile that does not penetrate gypsum/drywall/sheetrock will not be lethal. So, the consideration of other people in the house should be one for anyone choosing to use a firearm indoors.

Went to Sulzer's website and don't see the Mk1. Is the MLR-15 the evolution of the Mk1?

Bought one of those myself. I like it. Academy Sports still carries them but at least in Alexandria, they are not displaying them. Read between the lines.

That said, it's hard to go wrong with Smith & Wesson.

Have the impression that the "15's" are about to get more popular. Never know what our political/social climate will be in a couple of years. Rather be safe than sorry.
