Thoughts on the Ford 3.5L EcBoost V6 Engine? Would infrequently (unfortunately) tow 21' Ranger within 100 mile range.

Would tow easy. Don't mind mine. Sort of miss an 8 cylinder though.

Solid performer and a better option than the Ecodiesel for someone that tows occasionally with a daily driver.

Does great. My partner had one for several years, towed a 21 ft bass boat with no trouble.

Any half ton will pull that. You'll be fine.

Love mine. Interior in Lariat is sick.

I don't tow much but I don't think you would have any problem pulling that.

That boat is 3000lbs give or take with motor and gear and the ecoboost is rated for something like 9000-12000lbs depending on options...I think you will be fine. Ford made it to pull. If it can't pull a bass boat then they missed the mark.

Fyi, I have the 5.0 and pull my 22' bay boat no issues

I own an Ecodiesel and it's made for daily Highway driving. Definitely don't recommend for heavy towing, but would tow a bass boat fine.

My opinion on the Ecoboost has changed since I had to change out the frame on a 2016 Expedition yesterday.
Most insane hard plastic pipe routing I've ever seen in my life. Piece of fricking shite.

Absolutely love the Eco-boost in my wife's Expedition. Way better than the old 5.4 in her previous Expedition.

Wasnt there a guy bragging on the OT about his ecoboost and then at 100k it shite the bed?

We have the 2.7 ecoboost in an f150 at work, it has a lot of power. We dont really tow with it, but it gets up and goes.

I had a 2013 and will never buy another. 74K miles and the timing chain stretched. Turns out it is common and Ford basically said F you. It is what it is but I'll never own another one. Something about putting that much constant stress on a small motor never sat well with me but I bought one anyway. Traded it in and let the dealership deal with it since it ran well after it warmed up so they didn't know until I was long gone with the new one.

ETA: I think it was papa pogey that loves his until it did the same thing

It is a V6, and when the turbo kicks in, you will get 8 mpgs. If you are spending that kind of cash, just get a V8.

I loved mine until I realized I had the "timing chain rattle" or whatever it is.

I ended up getting an awesome trade value on it and now drive a GMC V8

I have a 2013 and just turned 130k miles. I only tow 8-10x per year. My tows include our tractor with front end loader and backhoe on a lowboy and an Airstream. It pulls both with no strain.

Zero issues.

I just don't get why anyone would bother getting the v6. Get the 5.0.
