Firearm law question

Lets say the cops knock on your door wanting to talk to you about you didcharging a firearm. Weather it be in a residential neighborhood or city limits. Something on this level, not in a murder or anything on that level. Say you shot it just because or at an armidillo and the neighbors called the police. For what ever reason, the cops come out and want to take the firearm and charge you with whatever.
Lets say it is an AR.
Can the person just hand over the lower? Say, here is my firearm, and give the law just the lower. Give them an excuse for the rest of the firearm and only give them the part that is on paper as a firearm.
Always wondered if this would work

They are going to take the entire gun...

but what if you say this is what I have. The rest, which is not a gun, is gone, sold, given away, lost, etc.
Just being picky here

Cops basically do what they want when they want, so your entire gun is going with them no matter what you say

Not without a warrant.
If the cops come to your door in this scenario you say you don't have a gun. They can't enter your house because the neighbors said you shot an armadill
But to answer your question, it would work if you spouted off some law, real or made up, that they know nothing about. Cops aren't lawyers.
"Section 3.2.4 of the state law of Louisiana defines a firearm as X, I know my rights and I will see you all in court"
That would piss a cop off, but they are more likely to take pause if they think someone is well versed in the book of the law.

In college, a guy at a party shot some dude with a BB gun. Cops came, but didn't take the red rider he shot him with. They took the guys 1400 fps pellet gun he used for hunting small game. $ gun. Not sure if it was legal, but they took it with the quickness.

just for argument sake, the law has everything in place to ask and take it. Just figured you can say here it is (lust the lower) but I don't have the rest any longer.

If you go the route of being a smart-arse, your just asking for trouble. Demanding a return with a warrant could result in a highly detailed listing of all parts associated with the weapon. Think about the size of a detent, that is what they would come back looking for. Your home will be wrecked.

Maybe if you denied shooting a weapon.
However, if you said oh yeah I shot it and here is the lower . . . . not sure if that would hold.

just go get a bolt action .22LR and a suppressor with some subsonic ammo. Neighbors will never know you are picking off armadillos.

Maybe just say "it wasn't me but I heard it too". What proof do they have to say it was absolutely you. Just because you have a gun in the house doesn't mean that you did it. Say somebody ran over a mailbox in your neighborhood, just because you have a truck doesn't mean you're guilty.

when you have outsmarted a cop, they are just going to shoot you.

don't answer the door. leave the lights off. random dilla shot in the dark isn't going to result in cops busting down your door.
next time, .22 w subsonic round. you don't shoot an AR at night in the middle of a neighborhood.
