200 pics of does and spotted fawns in 4 days. Oh, and a phone call saying that they are getting ready to cut the timber on one of my clubs.

They did this to me the Monday after opening weekend. I got one weekend of hunting in, and on that Monday they moved in and started cutting. They didn't finish til March or so. F'd up the whole season last year.

I REALLY like when they cut our timber, but damnit, it's too damn close to the season to be tearing our stands up.

One week cameras out and got 200 plus pics with only 2 of doe, 3 of coons, 8 of hogs, and the rest of cattle. Someone cut a gap in a damn fence just before season!

Damn cows wrecked three feeders, a duck blind, and two fruit trees that were just getting going. Not to mention that with this dry weather the only trails you can see are worn paths in the grass as there are no visible tracks in the soil. Now any visible trails are totally unrelieable.

I got pics of spotted fawns too. They are cutting timber on our lease too, thankfully not anywhere near my stands.

I know it sounds crazy, but that actually draws deer. Had this happen to me once, got pissed, and was leaving as I saw this big buck crossing into the active cutting section on my way out. I was upset about it until some of the oldtimers said that the saws draw deer, they get fresh vines and leaves/acorns to their level. Went back and hunted the edges and killed a nice 7 and 8. I could see the cutting going on from my stand, and the sign going into the cut areas was significant.

It also allows for new forest floor growth of grasses and smaller succulants which have bee shaded out up to that point.

if they leave some tree tops behind it will make a good bedding ground in the future too.

It also allows you to shoot big deer at very long distances.

I've been running four camera for about a month. Averaging almost 500 pics per day, but all four sites have corn. These two bucks showed up one time and stayed for about 30min. I haven't seen them since. 1000s of doe and fawn pics though with a few more little bucks sprinkled in here and there.

There is a time for that. There is also a time for this bad boy.

Both are good times.

Had 184 pics in 8 days...when I went and checked my area on Saturday. Camera ran out of batteries on the 21st because all the deer were feeding at night / very early morning, and 98% of the pics were does and fawns. Oh well I figure you keep the does happy and the bucks will show up sooner or later
