I read somewhere that female dog urine tends to cause more brown spots in grass vs. male dogs. Has anyone found any supplements that seem to help this situation. Fwiw I will weed n feed this weekend.

You get the brown spots from the nitrogen overload. The only thing I found to work is washing/watering down the grass to dilute.

The pills don't work and are not really healthy for the dog and the shite they sell at the pet store to spray on the spots doesn't work.

Ok thanks. I also read that you could use fertilizer that's low in nitrogen to help offset the urine from the dog. Watering the spot sounds the easiest.
I now think its a myth about male vs female - I think this because females squat and males lift and generally pee on posts, trees etc.

Was just reading up on lawn issues this morning. According to this site, it's nitrogen overload. Only real solution appears to be to water to dilute shortly after the dog takes a piss.

Saw something recently about a company that makes these fake rocks that you put in the dog bowl and it filters out all the bad stuff that kills the grass. Not sure if they work but the reviews looked promising.

Yes, no difference in male or female.

Water is the only solution to this issue.

Not entirely true. What food are you feeding her, and how much?

A lot has to do with the amount of protein in their urine.

I like the idea, butt...

Are they safe if my dog chews on them??

Knowing my stubborn arse dogs one of them will end up taking them out and drop them somewhere in the yard, I'll end up running over it with the lawn mower, and next thing I know, I have to pay for a broken window in my house.

From the link:

Dog Rocks were discovered in Australia by an Aboriginal gardener in the 1990s.

Oooooo, a freelance vet journalist!!

Many people have asked me how I stop the staining around my dogs mouths and faces and again I put this down to dog rocks in their water.

If you water is so bad it is staining a dog's mouth then you have bigger problems than brown spots in your yard. Also, who looks at other people's dog this closely???

Wow, what a scam.

If anyone is interested, I can mail you Tigerdeacon's special dog rocks for half the price they are charging.

Are they magical aboriginal gardening rocks? I'll take some... I'm gonna put them in my kids bottle so his diapers smell better.
