Trying to get my game plan together for our gov's gracious season for the endangered red snapper. Been looking at google maps today plotting in coordinates and trying to map out the most efficient runs. What areas ya'll plan on hitting?

I believe i will be heading down to ocodrie saturday or sunday, and take off work Monday if the weather is any good. Im pretty new to the offshore thing, so we are just going to head SSE out of wine island pass till we hit about 60 ft and fish. also going to bring some croakers for mangroves and try our luck at that.

You people should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to catch a fish that is on the brink of extinction. One of you may catch the very last red snapper.

I will most likely only get to fish the one weekend during the season. Plan is to hit the ship shoal area. Little further run but hoping for some bigger fish. Guess after my limit is done I will drag some baits for something else. Not sure what is going on out there water clarity wise and hopefully i can get a few mangroves to fill the aggregate.

Looks like as of now NOAA is giving 2-4's for the weekend but looks to be calming down Sunday night.

I'll be going for the only weekend. Screw the Gulf council.

Leaving the dock now, I'll let y'all know how much of the quote we catch so they can shorten the season some more.

Looking forward to your report. Man it is killing me being at my desk right now. Today through Wednesday look nice and calm. I just hope it can hold on for the weekend. NOAA and the Gulf Council.

Same here I am going to try and run out twice over the weekend weather permitting. I am spending the rest of this week re-stringing lines and getting gear ready. Probably going to put my new lever drags to the test as well after I limit on snapper. Here's hoping it is under 3' out there this weekend

My dad is going out tomorrow and Wednesday. Hopefully they're able to find them, but I just hope it isn't too tarded up this weekend. Friday will probably be my best bet with less boats on the water.

Yep, I think we're going to have a rigging party tonight. I haven't looked, but what else is in season this weekend? I'm sure stank arse Amberjack are out, but what about Gags/warsaw?

Oh, and don't forget to renew your landing permit. I'm still waiting on a password reset.

Yep Amberjack and trigger fish are out. Leaves you with lemon fish, mangroves at the snapper grounds. Only other option is to run a bit further after catching a limit of reds and drag some baits for pelagic species.

We may have to do that. I also wish we could find some dolphin, but that's a species we have just never had any luck with.

Plus all the shallow water groupers, and dozens of other snapper varieties, not to mention almaco jacks and everything else delicious swimming around down there. They require some different techniques and gear but other options are abundant.

Find grass lines for mahi and trippletail, deep drop for big grouper, chum for tuna, etc... I mean the options are virtually limitless if the weather cooperates.

Don't get me wrong, it sucks that AJs and triggers are off the board for right now, but adapting to the changing conditions and targeting the hundreds of other species that inhabit the same waters isn't difficult - it just requires some effort and forethought.

It is also a bit easier to the east with the deep water. I doubt i will be running far enough for Tuna out of Cocodrie this weekend as i will be targeting the ship shoal area for the snapper. Doubt i will see water deep enough for grouper either. Figure running west will have less people and hopefully get some real sow snapper.
