I'm looking for a versatile 7'-7'6" MH rod for under $350. I had a good deal on the outgoing Shimano Expride A 7'2" MH/Mod-Fast, but apparently Midway oversold the stock and just cancelled my order, so back to the drawing board.

I'm considering the following options but would love to hear other opinions:
- Shimano Expride B 7'2" MH/Mod Fast ($280)
- G Loomis IMX Pro 843C MBR ($350)
- Kistler Helium 7' MH/F (~$300)
- St. Croix Legend Tournament 7'4" MH/F ($300)
- Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 743C MH/F ($350)
- Pride Advanced Series 7'3" MH/F ($289)

FWIW, I'm partial to split cork grips but would consider something else, maybe. I'm currently leaning toward the Expride as I have 3 Expride A's and they are all awesome. The Pride rod interests me primarily because it's on an NFC blank.

Exprides are my go to bottom contact rod, Dobyns Champion Extremes are my crankbait/chatterbait/spinnerbait rods. G Loomis rods aren't worth the cost until you get into the NRX line when you have Dobyns, St. Croix and Shimano knocking it out the park at the $300 range

I will say that I'd be weary of buying a first off the line rod, might be worth grabbing a Expride A if you like them so much. I had a pre-ordered Zodias with the monocoque butt and the thing had durability issues the first week. Shimano has a year warranty, but my replacement took over 8 months...

I was on Ducketts for a while until switching to Dobyns 3 or 4 years ago. I agreed w/ you on the G. Loomis.

I like the Fitzgerald Stunner HD. I used to use Ducketts but switch to Fitzgerald a few years back.

That’s all I fish but they seem to get harder to find around Baton Rouge.

If you want to branch out I would try Powell or Pride rods. I have been a Powell fan for a long time. Gary Dobyns learned what he knows from working for them. I have a dozen or so of them and they are all impressive. To me each series they offer compares with rods $50-$100 more in cost.

Powell Max 734 CF $250
Powell Endurance 733C MHEF $150 https://powellco.com/
Powell Naked 703 CEF $200

Pride is another really good rod I stumbled upon. A coworker gets a team deal on them. It is Billy Kistler's new company. Billy is responsible for All Star, Castaway, and Kistler. When considering that they are made in the USA they are a decent value.

Pride Competition Series 7'3" MH $239 https://priderods.com/
Pride Advanced Series 7'3" MH $329

dude.... go buy 3 different shimano Veritas rods for less than $350. you will wonder why you ever felt the need to spend that much on a single rod.

Fitzgerald 7-0 mh stunner or all purpose . Very versatile
If you want a rod to handle long cast and some Texas rigging 7-3 mh stunner or all purpose
7-3 heavy will handle most all Texas rig or minimal flipping techniques (all but punching)

I've heard good things about the GLX in the MBRs and the IMX Pro for chatterbaits specifically. But otherwise, yeah I've been told to stay away. So the IMX Pro is likely out of the running. I've also had several people tell me I can get discounts on g loomis that may put the glx in my price range but I haven't found a shop local (DFW) that'll do that.

Check out Old 18. I have 2 of the Aerius rods and they're great.

I bought two of these last time they were half price. While good, they are only a good buy at half price.

I didn't know there was such thing as a $350 rod. Include me in the poor category

Man there are $800 rods. Someone will take your money no matter how much you're willing to spend. No doubt there are diminishing returns on this sort of thing.

Have you looked at getting a custom rod made? For $350 I bet you could get one to your preferred specs and not have to compromise on handle, blank, reel seat, guides, etc...
