I saw a guy bass fishing with a drop-shot. Idk how he was doing because I was on my way out when I saw him, but I was laughing the entire time. He just looked at me like I was the crazy one.

I just run crankbaits against stumps to wake em up. If that doesn't work I know a worm rigged carolina will.

I have had good success using beefed up drop shots to target bedding bass or pre spawm bass but never used it for summer time fishing or as it is used out west in a vertical presentation.

I know several people who have used it out at Toledo over deep brush piles when the bite really slows.

Dumb question -

What is the difference in a drop shot and carolina rig?

I cannot find a straight forward answer on google besides the drop shot being for a more finesse approach.

Drop shot has weight on bottom with hook above, usually directly to line. I have two types of special hooks for this.

C-rig has weight/bead/swivel/leader/hook.

Drop shot:
Tie directly to hook, use tag end to tie to weight. Creates a vertical presentation that keeps your bait a certain distance off the bottom.

Carolina Rig:
Weight goes on line, then bead, then tie to swivel. Next tie leader to swivel and other end to hook. Creates a more horizontal presentation. The bait might be a little up in the water column initially but will slowly sink to the bottom. A great search rig.

Ok thank you Alx and Coco, that clears it up. I was under the impression that the C-rig weight was on bottom with hook on top. Looks like the drop shot is pretty popular

IIRC Coco, yall were using drop shot at the refuge when we went?

And I never use a c-rig for saltwater. I like the fact that the bite comes directly to the rod with no interference from the weight. I also lose fewer hooks when fishing in peril.

Yeah we used it out there earlier in the year when the grass was lower. Once the grass got over 2' tall, it wasn't effective anymore.
