Fair Price Used Yamaha 20 hp Outboard?

I have a 2006 yamaha 4 stroke 20 hp outboard. I'm thinking of selling it in order to get a little air-cooled motor due to where I hunt the most.
It's tiller handle, electric start.
It's it good shape, not sure on the hours, runs like a top. The cowling is scratched and has a crack on one side.
Based on this info what do you think is a fair price for this?

Ops, According to that NADA guide no 20hp in 2006.

Got a 2008. The small carb jets have given me hell. Going back to a Merc

That's about what a 9.9hp is going for. A 20hp would be about $1500 I think.

I'd probably ask about $1750 and let it go for $1500. I've recently priced many used small outboards. You can't get a decent running one of any HP for less than $1200. I've seen and tested some in the price range of $1200 to $1500 for 15HP and 25HP, and they were all complete shite. Sat up for years in a barn with dirt dauber nests under the hood, or corrosion on the inner parts, shite like that. If yours is truly in good running condition, and you can run it to prove it, I would not let it go for less than $1500.

Good to know. Did you find one?

You'll save yourself a lot of headache if you can take it in to get the official hours report along with compression and whatever else they will give you.
Post that report in your for sale ad, along with a fair price that is "FIRM".
Otherwise you post it online anywhere you'll get 10s of calls with low balls and people asking you to run it and take it to a shop and everything else.

I did. I actually traded my 2012 Tohatsu 9.8HP 4 stroke for a 2008 Mercury 15HP 4 stroke. The guy wanted a lighter motor, and I wanted a little bigger motor, so it worked out for both of us.

What Clown said is so true. I've had my eye on the used 15-25hp for a few months now and I've seen some of the dirtiest, oldest shite that the seller was asking way too much for.
I'm just waiting for that diamond in the rough though. I can't afford anything over $1k.

Be patient. I did the same thing when I bought my boat. waited and waited, finally something exactly like I wanted came available, and was in my price range.
ETA: With hunting season around the corner, people will be looking to sell their boats and motors. You'll maybe find what you are looking for. In the meantime, save more while waiting, so you'll be able to spend a little more.

Yeah I've bought and sold a few. It's usually more affordable to find a deal on a boat and motor than buying separately in my experience. I always get screwed coming and going on these deals though.
