What's not to get? The are cool looking and the women like them. Who needs a truck that works all the time, as long as you look cool sitting in it.

Yes and no. The 7.3 is arguably the best diesel engines ever put into a pickup truck. Closest comparision is the 5.9 Cummins. Its not that uncommon for a 7.3 to go well over 300,000 miles. Hints the reason alot of people want them.

The 6.0 was junk. Hit or miss whether you got a good one or a bad one. There's just too many horror stories for my to ever take my chances with a 6.0.

The 6.4 was basically a bandaid from Navistar for the 6.0 screw up while Ford got their shite together to build their own engine in house. So far they've been decent engines but suffer from horrible mileage in stock form. However, since they're so new the jury is still out. Check back in about 5 years to see what the general concensus is on them.

The 6.7 is the newest engine produced in house by Ford that was just released last year. Better mileage and more power than the 6.4 but as with the 6.4, they're too new to pass judgement on just yet.

Neither does GM. That's why they continue to suck hind tit.

Build a 3/4 ton truck that looks like a 3/4 truck. Build a 4x4 that looks like a 4x4. Get rid of the damn IFS and put a real axle in it. I really don't understand the problem.

The 6.0 can be made reliable but it will cost between 3600 and 5500 to do so.

Start with an 06 or 07
Install coolant bypass filter
Install oil bypass filter
Remove cab and delete or block EGR
Replace head studs and head gaskets with ARP studs and Black onyx head gasket
Replace exhaust with cat delete and 4 " turbo back system.
Run synthetic oil and replace fuel filters and oil filter religiously.

Now you have reliability but it's also illegal.

IDE like to thank the Our wonderful government for creating it own brand of diesel. Which prevents us from buying or selling our diesel on foreign markets. So while every other country continues to enjoy low priced diesel we in the us get screwed.

Don't even get me started on ethanol.

I full understand that, but in all honesty, should you really need to do all that crap just to have a truck that you don't have to worry about? I say no. Sure once you stud the heads and delete the EGR you've got a reliable truck that could last forever, but that's a huge expense and alot of mechanical work to make a $50,000 truck(when new) reliable. Screw that.

I had to pull the EGR and DPF on my dodge and it runs like a top now. Very happy I did.

<-------This guy is

I have a 2008 2500HD with the duramax. Never had a lick of trouble mechanically. Only service was on some faulty power locks. Like was previously posted Chevy is long over due for an interior overhaul and ditch the IFS and put a solid axle up front like ford and dodge. Only reason I went chevy was that the local ford dealership pissed me off. It feels so much smaller than a super duty but that is just the cab because it is a beast when it comes to towing.

ETA: As soon as my power train warranty is up the DPF will be off and a tuner installed.

the duramax won every 2011 HD shootout ive seen so far and it also beat the shite out of the ford in a 7 mile uphill towing test with 27,000 lbs.

The Kawasaki Brute Force loves all those shootouts in the ATV world. IT's a workout warrior but a POS otherwise. Not sure if the Duramax is the same, just saying that performance in those types of tests dont usually hold much water.

I've had a Duramax for 5 yrs now I did have a bearing go out on the drivers side but other than that it's been a good truck. If I didn't like it so much I would trade it in for a gas burner because of the price of diesel.

I would not own a new model Ford they cost way too much to buy and repair to have them break down with less than a 100,000 miles. Diesels used to be the best trucks you could buy but like everything else the fricking government has to get involved and screw things up.

I agree and I'm on my fourth PSD. The 6.0 has soured me on Ford which is why I advised the OP to do neither the 6.0 or the 6.4

I was looking to purchase a 2006 6.0 Superduty but after doing some research I decided against the 6.0 and instead went with the duramax. The GMC has been a great truck and I have had no problems with it thus far. I tow a 28' travel trailer and a 23' bay boat with ease. I do however wish the cab was a bit bigger but I am happy with the truck and the ride.
