Came home yesterday to flags put up by the electric company from the transformer to by electrical box, and water company marked with paint the water line.

Why are they doing this? No changes put in on my part, been here 12 years.

Someone is about to dig or bore, my guess would be you live in a neighborhood and ATT is putting fiber in.

How close am I?

someone has called in line locates and plans to dig in that area. you can generally go to the state onecall website and look up the ticket to see who it is, if you are interested....or you can just wait until Monday morning to see who shows up with a backhoe.

also, they can dig in the road/street easement without getting your permission, so go ahead and relax, if that is what you are thinking....

that is likely due to someone being lazy and saying something like "mark the entire front of the property" instead of being more specific in their instructions. I would not expect that anyone would dig that far into your yard without communicating to you first.

Ya, you have to use a map to show what you want flagged. They probably were just lazing submitting it and put a huge area.

Youre probably getting fiber, so its not a bad thing.

In a past life, I marked utilities. This was unfortunately the norm. Sometimes it's easier to say entire front of property to CYA in case of a cut so that the company won't be liable for any damages from unmarked lines. Sometimes they'll have you mark way past the proposed work on either side.
