I have a truck and trailer that I no longer use and have no intention of putting on the highway. I am planning to sell them soon but haven’t sold them yet and my insurance is due soon. Can I drop the registration and turn in the plates and then drop insurance on them before I sell them?

This is in Louisiana.

Yes, make sure you turn in the plates before you cancel insurance. Keep any documents you receive.

If utility trailer send info on the trailer to user name @gmail.com.

You don’t even have to turn in the plates any more. Just cancel them

Expresslane.org

Just make sure you keep the confirmation that they were canceled.

Otherwise, you'll get hit with the "lapse of insurance" penalty.
