I remember seeing some diy outdoor kitchen posts over the past few years so I'm hoping yall can help.

Trying to get a rough estimate for a project Im planning. Going to get a slab poured, roughly 400 sq ft. and I'm planning to do a sink and cabinets with around 15 feet of counter space along exterior wall of house.

Grill won't be built in being that I just bought a new charbroil pit.

Not really sure what surface to go with for counters. Don't really want to go with granite due to the high cost. Any other ideas? I should be able to knock out atleast the framework for cabinets/counters myself.

Also, built in fire pit. Seems easy, but I'm sure there's more to it than laying down brick.

thanks for any help

so what's your question? What type of counter to use in lieu of granite?

That and what it roughly costs materials wise.

I have an idea of cost but everyone I talk to says I'm crazy if I think it's that cheap. I just don't see it being >$2-3k

I'd go tile with wood trim on the counters. Slab will cost roughly $700 if you go with a concrete company unless I can pull some favors.

what about an outdoor refrigerator and other appliances? Hard to do anything outdoor kitchen with shite for less than 5k. I guess you aren't paying much labor costs.

When I bought house they left me a refrigerator. Honestly I don't even know if I'd put it out there.

Really just want sink, cabinets/counter and fire pit mainly. Like I said before grill will be regular pit on rollers

I'd do a designed spot for an eventual green egg type pit. It's too common for outdoor kitchen to have the dual gas pit and smoker pit for different occasions.

Are the cabinets going to be covered? If exposed to the elements, you need to change things up...

I did something very similar to this a few years back.

Did all the labor myself.

20X20 slab poured and stained
3' brick wall down one side
Counter with sink and BGE hole down the other side
Undercounter storage with a treated wood cabinet door
Tile countertop with brick facing on the back and side
Front of counter was the faux stucco board painted
Small lamp post mounted into one corner of the slab

Materials cost was just over $4k and this was pulling water for sink from outside spigot (no hot water) and digging a french drain (no plumbing into sewer system). shite ain't cheap.
