delete isn't worth it...

egr blocker plate is your best bet...

may want to clean the intake while you are at, it it's going to be pretty crusty in there.

you'll either need to find someone willing to tune out the EGR codes that will be set or google "finger stick"...which is a fooler. Don't know how many people are willing to risk the EPA fines for selling tunes or the finger stick that defeaZt the EGR codes.

What year Model truck are we talking about?

1st gen 2001-2004 LB7
2nd Gen 04.5-2005 LLY
3rd Gen 2006-2007 LBZ
4th Gen 07.5-2010 LMM
5th Gen 2011-now LML

I read online about the fingerstick

Will that work with the egr valve already shot?

I've been a firm believer that one day the law is going to hammer down on all of these deleted diesels running around.

Maybe so. But until the law figures out how to make common sense laws that dont cost people a fortune or tear up motors, people will find a way

Exactly this is my last diesel. Love it, but not worth it.

Like it or not, the new stuff is exponentially cleaner and works well.

IMO, you're taking a big risk when you pull emission control equipment off of a diesel. When the hammer comes down (and it will eventually), you'll be stuck with either a massive bill to get it into compliance or an illegal and worthless truck.

it's a crapshoot on just running the stick with a bad egr and no blocker plate...but if you install the blocker plate and the stick everything will work fine...

Depends on if you are talking about DPF and DEF deletes and not only an EGR deletes...

With EFI live the tuner that did my 01 LB7 could make that truck run cleaner than a stock 01 while obtaining 400+ rwhp...mine was federal emissions...so no egr...later they put the egr on even the federal emissions LB7's

In the Duramax world there are exceptional tuners that I know that can build a smokeless low emissions tune for DPF deletes that would pass any emissions test while tuning for big power.

The DEF is a tough one to beat, but they can make big power even with the DEF treatment still on

There is no way a tuned and deleted truck would pass a sniffer test. Not even close. EGR is a huge part of controlling NOx.

Check your warranty papers if you fail an emissions-related component. I believe the EPA requires manufactures to warranty those components for a good bit longer than the regular powertrain coverage. I doubt it's 200k miles but check it anyway.

the sniffer test for diesels doesn't test for Nox...they test for opacity...40 is allowable... there are tuned trucks(with an EGR delete) scoring 3 on the sniffer

testing for Nox will only take place on trucks \that have after treatment systems...we are talking EGR deletes not DEF correct?

exactly...I remember the '80s when everyone was taking the catalytic converters off their vehicles...then they started looking for them as a part of the inspection and a whole lot of folks had to spend several hundred bucks to put them back on...

NOx and SOx have been regulated on Diesel engines for a while now. It isn't only applicable to vehicles with SCR, that was just needed to meet the final emissions tier requirements. I'm not sure what the timeline was exactly but anything we're talking about deleting anything off of will be subject to the limits that were in effect when the vehicle was built. If it has electronic injectors it was certainly regulated. The regulations were implemented in 4 "tiers" of NOx, SOx, and particulate matter emission levels.

ETA: the test will be changed to sniff for everything in light of the recent Volkswagen scandal. Retrofitting a truck back into emission compliance will cost much more than deleting it did. I don't recommend it.

Well his EGR and other parts are already crap and will cost a bunch of money to repair...a blocker plate and finger stick isn't going to be a loss "if" he ever has to go back to compliance...If he does, he was going to need those parts anyway.

Heard this for years, hasn't happened and probably never will. The aftermarket responds faster and better than the EPA ever will. Most of these deletes can be undone easily and reattached after a smog test. EPA sure as hell won't be doing random spot-checks either.

Exactly. Its a wash if they put hammer down

My shite is already broke. The ONLY thing that has failed on my truck is EGr related

Now where can i buy the fingerstick??

You will probably have to find a programmer that will shut off the codes or just get someone in your area that does EFI live in your area to write you a tune...

Just remembered they were in development for the LMM, but they never made it out of beta testing.

What area are you in...maybe I can recommend a good tuner.

Kory Willis is one of the best tuners and is located around the Lake Charles area

PPEI

337-990-4840

you shouldn't even need the blocker plate(tough install) as they simply turn off the EGR

you could stay stock with just the egr shut off or you could do more...

you could just schedule to bring your truck to them...shouldn't take long at all...

You could probably find cheaper, but you would have to ship your ECM to them to get it done.
