Opened brand new box of Winchester 5.56 and one round had no projectile. Or so it seemed. Once I grabbed it I could hear a rattle inside the casing and it was the lead. Seems it never was crimped properly on the casing and just fell in. No loose powder in box. Weird.

It can happen. Anytime I buy ammo I sort through it to check for obviously defective rounds. Finding one too deeply seated or badly bent is rare for the most part.

I can't bring myself to shoot any Winchester ammo, after the shotgun ammo episode....

I once bought Winchester .300wsm ammo. I shot one round and ejected it. The case was cracked for the top of the neck down about 8mm. I don't think I will buy their rifle ammo again.

Not saying this is what happened in your case but I saw the same thing happen to a guy shooting steel through an extra full turkey choke.

Yeah, we all shite our pants for sure. Left side of the barrel blew out, and I was the far right in the blind. No idea where all the bb's went. I was shooting an 1100, with a modified choke. Upon researching, I wasn't the first one this happened to. I called Winchester, and they had me send them the box of shells, the shell casing that caused the blowup, and the barrel of the gun. They replaced my barrel and reimbursed me for the box of ammo.
