I am trying to figure out where to strategically place my deer stand on my property. There is about 40 acres or so that's wooded with immature trees, overgrown with brush/brambles and a creekbed the deer tend to travel through. This is surrounded by another 80 or so acres of fields with a few trees, but mostly wide open pasture/hay fields.

What would you do in this situation? Hope the deer wander out of the cover and cross the fields? Set out a feeder to draw them out? .

I don't know much about deer patterns, so any help is appreciated.

Look for trails put out some corn and a camera and see if u can figure it out. If u have power line etc that can work. Remember the wind too. Most good days will have a ne to nw wind to e to w so we usually set them up to hunt everything but south wind variations

yeah, I put out a camera and some corn with molasses about 200 yards downwind from where I have it positioned right now, so If it's gone and there's no sign of hogs I'll put my feeder there. but I've done that before with no luck, even though I know they're on the property.

good idea, thanks!

to add context... there's a small pond above the house by itself, it feeds the creek and goes down through the middle of the property. down in there is where the deer like to be, but it's full of brambles, gets flooded easily, and water moccasins like it, too.

My stand is currently in the largest visible mowed pasture near the small grove of trees in the middle

These are the first two places I would check, depending and wind patterns etc. assume rifle hunting

Agree with these two locations. I'll add that the creekbed is your holy grail here. Those deer are going to use it to travel back and forth. I would set up a stand in the field and provide some food source there for early season hunting, observation, and an alternative for bad wind days. I'd then set up my A stand where the creekbed meets the big woods and the field comes the closest to it. Bayous and creeks are like a highway for deer and you have a pinch point where those three terrains come together. Use it

Somewhere in B definitely, even if you have to set up a ground blind..

You said the deer are traveling the creeks. Hunt there. They have food with the oak trees and briars. Learn your oaks and slip around and see where they are feeding. Set up on those oaks

Don't bring corn into this situation. You have everything you need already (food and cover). Hunt the deer don't just wait for them to come to corn. It's much more gratifying figuring them out in your own then just staring at a corn pile.

I would hunt where the B is, for if no other reason than the bottle neck that appears to be there.

Thanks y'all!

I like the B spot, too, but haven't seen too many tracks there lately. It's often flooded, so it can be difficult to access, but I think it's a great spot as well.

There are two huge willow oak trees right there, but I'm not sure if they like the acorns it produces.

I wanted to put a tree stand in one of the oaks, but I was afraid they'd smell me and my position would be given away.

You already know all you need to know about it. Where they like to travel, what they are feeding on, etc. no need at all to put feed out. Have a much better chance at a big buck by hunting him naturally than over a corn pile. You will turn those deer nocturnal.

I would hunt that creek where thet travel. They are traveling to and from their bedding sites to their feeding sites. Stay there late into the morning to catch one slipping back to the bedding area

Ok gotcha. They use the creekbed as a walkway to go from the oaks( B) to the pond
