Thursday I found out I’d have a three day weekend so I decided to make the most of it with my son. Woke up yesterday morning, packed up, headed south.

I’ve never regretted seeing a sunrise.

Very nice. I used to kayak out there and camp pretty often.

FYI, I don't think you can have fires out there any longer, especially above the tide line.

Mosquitos aren’t bad, but the gnats are fierce when out of the wind.

Thanks for the info, didn’t realize that.

What sort of trap/device is this? I’ve found a few washed up on the beach.

Where did you launch where you can drive on the beach up to the water?

That was the Kuhn street boat ramp. Concrete ramp with 2 piers. Just west of the ramp/piers there is a Sandy spot at the edge of the asphalt. My tires were still on the asphalt there.

Thanks for the info. We launched kayaks at the yacht club just west of there last summer.

I think that was during the statewide burn ban.
Per MS Dept. Of Marine Resources:
quote:

Fires are not allowed in any CPA except Deer Island.
You must keep fires in fire rings, stoves, or grills. They must be only on bare sandy areas near the water. Extinguish fires completely before leaving the area. Do not burn any metals or plastics. Please ensure that nails are removed from wood before burning. We may prohibit fires on Deer Island during seasons of unusual dryness or excessive fire danger. Burn bans are strictly enforced. You may collect only loose, woody material on the ground for burning. Do not carve, chop, or cut down any live or dead standing vegetation. Do not bring firewood from more than 25 miles away from the CPA, since it may introduce tree-killing insects and diseases.
