Going fishing there this week with kids. Never been before. Any advice or what to expect? I’ve looked at what’s available on the website. The website has an alert about water monitoring and an advisory but it doesn’t say what the advisory is about. And where to buy bait? Internet search isn’t showing many options.

My wife’s family used to have a camp out there. If you are fishing in the bay expect fresh water this time of year. For the kids….you could fish a small piece of shrimp on the bottom and load the chest with croaker. The ones that are bream size are excellent for eating. Maybe a red or two as well.

You can fish the state park area as noted above. Another spot to try is toward the end of the point. Often the yacht club gate is open. If you drive to the end of the yacht club, you can get to where the boats dive into the marina. Casting out into the gulf there with shrimp on a lead head is usually a good spot for croakers. The bay view has some parking on the bay as well. If you can’t get into the yacht club, the same technique from that spot would be my next choice.

You can buy bait at Dago’s in Lydia. I’m not sure if they have live bait at cyp pt. yet.
