I have had 3-4 stetsons and the cowboy hat is not an easy application. They need to fit pretty far down on your head to avoid falling off, need to have a chin strap for wind over 6 mph, need to have an f-350 to have sufficient truck cabin clearance, need a black felt for winter, a white felt hat for summer formal wear, a straw hat for cool summer wear with sweat bands to show that you use it.

A good high brehm shop will measure your head, pull an appropriately sized stock item and steam treat it to match you exact head roundness

all that's left it deciding to have a thin silver or rattlesnake hat band

Unless you just have to have a custom hat, Boot Barn carries Stetson hats. They have mid grade in stock and you can order some really nice ones site to store.

I'm rocking this one on this cool fall morning...

you want a full custom from scratch, or just want them to shape a hat/brim the way you want it? cavendars, and boot barn should be able to steam and shape the hats they sell to how you like them.

The Hat Store in Houston has some high end stuff

Would prefer to support a local business, and get a nice felt, from scratch hat. Would like something that fits well, won’t fly off.

I’m willing to go to Texas (next time I’m there) was hoping to find someone more local.

ML Provisions in Crystal Springs, MS

You won't be disappointed. Check out the account on Instagram for hats she has made.

Tell me you’re OT baller without telling me you’re OT baller. I have a Stetson and a Bailey that were both North of $500 20 years ago I can’t imagine paying for a custom hat today…

Not where you want to go, but The Best Hat Store in Fort Worth (Stockyards) sold me and shaped a hat for me that has gotten me more compliments than just about anything I’ve ever worn. If you’re ever up there give them a try.

And I don’t usually get compliments wearing a hat

True custom and made for your head? Closest I’m aware of is Catalena Hatters in Bryan, Tx.

Do you ever make it around Austin?

Texas Hatters, 30 miles south in Lockhart, Tx is the most famous custom hat maker I know of.

If I could drop the coin on a custom hat I would go see Manny and get some BBQ while in Lockhart.

Not likely to happen in the areas that you describe. If you want a true handmade custom hat, look up Hats By Griz
They tend to run thick and he is fond of doing kettle curl styles.
A lot depends on what exactly you are looking for. You might take a look around the hat forums on the Fedora Lounge web group for help.

I’ll keep that in mind, I don’t make it that way often, but could make a trip out there. Plenty to see/do to justify going out that direction.
