I get the principle behind crate training. It does work. But how does a dog know that once outside of it's crate, i.e. home not to relieve itself inside the rest of your home? Is it then a matter of trust between the dog and owner?

I ask, because it's been a while since I have owned a puppy. That changed this past weekend as I flew out to pick up my girl. The joy and excitement this little 4 legged creature has already brought to us is immeasurable.

Can't really answer the question, but I have always rushed the pup out and made sure grass was the first thing the feets feel. They piss. At some point, grass = piss. Be wary of carpet. They confuse it with grass sometimes.

Cute pup.

I crate trained my 4month old pretty hard and he has this problem occasionally when I let him run loose in the house. MOST of the time, If he's not in his crate or my bedroom, he's out back in the yard where I don't need to keep an eye on him.

I crate trained mine from the day we brought her home for about 3 months. After that, we kept her in a small room, then gradually let her loose in the house. Early on there were a few accidents, but now she goes all day without any trouble.

My boy has what seems to be a slight case of separation anxiety which leads to him pissing on the floor. Just the other day, he broke out of his crate while I was at work and pissed ALLL over the floor in my bedroom. It pisses me off because Im positive he knows where his business needs to be handled. Such a little MFer some times.

I do the same exact thing. She has done wonderful thus far. Always goes to the bathroom every time outside. Last night, she did have an accident in her kennel and immediately let me know about it.

I'm taking her out every two hours, as the general rule of thumb is 2 months = 2 hours, 3 months = 3 hours and so on.

I'm watching plenty of videos online and even purchased Cesar Millan 50 tips for raising the perfect dog. I'm just trying to figure out how the "dog" puts it all together to not piss and/or shite in the house.

I have a german shepherd who has bad separation anxiety. Destroyed two kennels and has escaped out of the backyard gate. He has to be chained up now

My newest is a stray that picked our house. We skipped the crate since our other dog has long been trained. I just made sure she was taken out often and never left our sight. We had some issues, but she's had a long run of no accidents recently.

Have you always made the kennels his home and "safe haven?" I ask, because I didn't do this initially with the first couple of dogs I had. I didn't know any better.

When I caught them in a bad act, I sent them to their kennel. Unfortunately, that is the wrong thing to do and they view that as punishment.

I have a boxer who is crated trained. During training she was in the crate most of the day. She only went outside to relieve herself and play a bit. It's important to make the crate the appropriate size and don't give the dog too much room to pee/crap in the back.

After a couple of months i quit closing his crate at night and now he just goes and lays down in there when he's tired. Problem is that he likes to piss on concrete and the tile in my house looks like....concrete.

Yeah, my boy isn't that bad, he just gets nervous and pees every now and then. He has only chewed up 1 or 2 things since I got him at 7 weeks.

Here's a picture of my badass. I like him much more now than I did when he was a young buck.

I can't really speak to the crate training, because most of my dogs learned house training within a week or so, just depends on the dog.

BUT, that is the cutest dang dog i've ever seen man.

When you get past this issue, you might want to take a look at this.

He was for the first few months until he had to go spend two months with the girlfriend's parents who never put him in there.

Man, he is beautiful. Are there many breeders local? I assume you're from Louisiana?

I've crate trained my two dogs. once they were crate trained, accidents in the house were very rare. every now and then for the first few months, but very rare. Crate training seemed to extend to the rest of the house quite naturally.

Yes I'm in BR. None it LA at the moment because a female wanting to be bred had a problem and is out of the breed standard according to her owner. Bought him from a breeder in Mount Pleasant TX. I think there are 3 puppy Drahthaars coming to Louisiana in the next month or so.
