Can anyone give a crabbing report for Rockefeller?

I went crabbing by the Gulf at Joseph's Harbor Landing on July 4. The crabs were small and not real full. There's been so much fresh water that the marsh is almost completely fresh. Can't imagine there will be much of a white shrimp season this year down there. There were no brown shrimp. There's still just too much rainwater working its way through from the marsh from White Lake. Not many boats there on the holiday weekend either, which tells you a lot. Also, as soon as the tide started going out, the crabs disappeared.

Don't know exactly where but been seeing good reports in holly beach

It's been about a month since we went but we caught 4 dozen decent sized crabs in about an hour. Didn't need any more than that so we put the boat on the trailer and headed back.

Had a friend go weekend before last and did pretty well. I don't think he killed em, but caught enough for a boil.

I caught enough to boil, but usually by this time in the year they are bigger and more numerous. The rain and new water control structures are choking the marsh in Rockafeller to keep fresh water for ducks and cattle.

I'm taking my 6 year old boys down in the morning to try to catch a few, but I was wondering if there were any places to throw a line in from the bank to catch anything. I don't even care what we catch, the boys just love to fish and I want them to have a good time.
If there is a place, any bait/methods advice would be appreciated.

You can crab or fish on price lake road. Pass up the boat launch and go about a mile and its on your left. It's just a bit past the wildlife and fisheries camps. Just turn down price lake road and go south to the parking area. There is plenty of room to fish from the bank.

Use turkey necks on string. Teach them how to feel if anything is on the line, give them the net and they'll have a blast. Let us know how it goes.

Yep, I've taken them crabbing plenty and it's always a great time, just never tried to fish out there. I'll give a report at the end of the day.
Thanks, should they fish under a cork or on the bottom? Shrimp OK as bait?

I'd probably start on the bottom. And yes, shrimp will be fine.
If you have a castnet, you should be able to catch a few live shrimp for bait.
You can also drive to the end of the road and might do better on crabs all the way back there.

Pretty good day today, caught 6 1/2 dozen from 9:30 to 12:30 and a great time as usual for the kids. It was crazy busy, so we set up on the road where they just did work and have the mud stacked. No fish, didn't see anyone catch a fish.
Firing up the burner now!

Even better on the tray! They just taste better when you work for them.
