Haven't been down to the camp near Buras for the first time in, well, way too long. Was thinking of taking the boat towards 4 bayous and crabbing in the surf one afternoon. Has anyone started seeing crabs on Grand Isle, Elmer's, etc.? If they are showing up near GI, they'll be west of there too...

Crabs have been coming into the beaches at night with the tide. Been able to catch a few dozen very early in the mornings this week but they seem to disappear after 8:00-9:00

I set a couple traps out over the weekend on the beach and only caught 1.5 dozen.

Friday afternoon they were all over Elmer's. Hit GI and Elmer's Sunday and didn't see any crabs. Did catch 2 12/16 ct shrimp on a H&H, the shrimp were everywhere

Set some lines off the beach at Grand Isle early Friday morning and didn't do any good . Didn't see anybody catching . Had traps set all weekend off the pier behind the camp , and didn't catch very many . Ones we did catch were pretty small.

I guess we were the only ones to catch any.

Caught 4 dozen Sunday on a single line. Another 2 dozen Monday morning. Haven 't crabbed much since then though.

I bought 50 live bait shrimp at Carmadelles on Sunday, as well as 2 dozen crabs($12/dozen). The shrimp were HUGE for bair shrimp, after loosing a few of them to rat reds I decided they'd be better served feeding myself. Threw them in the ice chest and boiled them with my crabs on Sunday night.

I'm headed back to the island this weekend and will reset my traps again and see how it goes.

Are you guys setting traps way in the back? I've had a few stolen this year when set close to the camp. Sons of bitches.

I've just put mine on the beach, no issues as of yet.

Gotcha. I have never had a problem on the beach either. Too much traffic I guess. Mine have been stolen right behind the island. Between the island and the rocks.

Not surprised, not a ton of traffic back there or crowds so people are more likely to just grab them and go.

I've definitely had them stolen from the beach.

Now we make sure that we don't leave them in the water on the beach unattended during the day. We will set them at night and come run them in the morning. Will leave them out while the family is on the beach in the morning but they come back to the camp with the family.

What are you putting in them for bait? I used turkey necks last time. Set them Friday night, checked/rebaited them Saturday afternoon then picked them up Sunday on my way out of town.

Fish heads/guts preferably. Necks if I don't have fish.

Wanted to thank you guys for the reports. I set 4 traps East of the Empire Jetty and caught about 3 dozen large females but had 10 or so with eggs. It was worth it though, probably only a 6 hour soak.

I haven't been down to the camp and fished a weekend in over a year but we caught our red snapper and a dozen or so Mangroves in the Delta, about 50' of water Friday afternoon. Fished trout/ Redfish Saturday morning and really struggled with 4 guys totaling 12 redfish, 6 trout, and a few puppy drum. All in all a decent trip considering I've been away so long.

What's really depressing is seeing how much has been lost in the areas around Flatboat, Dead Woman, and Blind Bay, makes me want to cry. Seems we don't have a lot of time left to enjoy it guys. I hope I'm wrong...
