I'm not in LA, but that's correct. Any other opinions on a revolver that could be carried loaded with rat shot that would be lighter than that one? The appeal with that gun is the ability to fire a .410 shotshell so the cylinder is going to be oversized in comparison to a conventional revolver - which I am open to.

any revolver with rat shot would do fine. the .410 is overkill.

i can wait to have some throw away money and get a .357mag S&W snubby.

Yeah they never fully go away. On those winter days when you touch the 60's they come out to sun themselves.

ohhh, I've only been bowhunting for about 45 years, brah... I usually don't shoot guns on the way to my climber or out.. If I want to kill a snake, I use a limb, not shoot a gun and make that racket,,,and I do live "down here"...

well, i don't have my masters or anything like that, but, the way i figure it is,,, if your foot is only inches away from a snake and you feel that you are in danger, i wouldn't pull out a short barrel pistol and shoot it with pellets or ratshot down that close to my foot, but, that's just my opinion..

I don't hunt public land BTW, either, I just prefer to sneak in to my spot and sneak out when I'm bow hunting, not play Wyatt Earp, but again, that's just my opinion.

This is the thing. I too hate snakes, but in 30 years of hunting I have never been in a situation where I HAD to kill a snake. I've killed a few, and took great pleasure in it, but it was for selfish purposes. I would never screw up a hunt to shoot one. I do carry a .38 snubby while scouting sometimes, but never while hunting. It's just not necessary. When I do carry it, it's loaded with shot shells and I feel it's a good fit for that role.

I feel that the judge is just a silly idea that has been done and failed many times before. Taurus has pulled off one he'll of a marketing campaign and sold a lot of people on a really stupid idea.

I purchased one for the wife to have for protection at home, in case she ever needs it.. It does double duty, for it rides on my tractor, loaded with no. 7.5's when I'm bush hogging...I didn't buy mine for a designated carry, or snake gun.

No brah, don't get out yet. You seem to be the voice of reason at times.

If the judge works for you then go with it. It's just my opinion.

Guys - I probably need to clarify: this will not be my primary concealed carry weapon. Everything I currently own is semi-auto and will not properly cycle "rat shot". I was looking for something light that I could have with me in the woods in the spring/summer while doing typical camp work. I considered a airweight S&W (my wife's CCW) but the .410 shot shell packs more punch (and pellets) than rat shot in a .38... Hope this clears up my intentions and I certainly appreciate all the feedback thus far.

A loaded Taurus Judge, even the shorter barreled one... is going to be well over 2 lbs. Not light.

I don't think you'll find a better snake gun than the Judge... but light it ain't, and concealable it ain't. Go pattern your wife's .38 and I think you'll have enough info to decide this issue.

thats cool bro, but sometimes it just feels good to shoot some guns after being awake all morning. And i feel the main purpose people would carry a snake gun because it was the one firearm you could carry while bow hunting prior to the new CC laws now. it would be nice to at least have some kind of gun if you are out and a panther, bobcat comes at you. you have some noise and some lead to throw at them.

Or a space alien falls out of the sky and tries to anal probe you. About as much of a chance of that happening in La, or mississippi, or Texas, or Arkansas.........

Maybe you have some badass bobcats where you hunt. I've never known anyone to be attacked by one around here. And we have a BUNCH of those little bastards.
