I've seen my share of jams and issues with steel cased ammo in AR's and AK's when I work my shifts at the range but I can't recall seeing many - if any - issues with it in pistols.

I know all the negatives about using steel vs brass but as long as a shooter cleans his firearms well after each use would the effects of wear from steel vs brass warrant never using steel?

I'm only asking cause I got an alert for a hell of a deal on 500 rounds of Wolf Steel on slick guns this morning. I'd be using it for practice and range ammo, obviously.

What's the OB say?

The primers tend to be harder on the Russian steel ammo. Some guns run it, some don't.

Many say that steel wears out the extractor on the pistol quicker. Extractors are cheap.

For $7.76 per box of 50 I'll give it a try.

You will have to shoot a ton of rounds for extractor wear to happen. Hard primers and dirty as hell are my two biggest issues but at that price I can spend a little extra time cleaning my glocks. I am in for 1k probably.

Personally, I don't shoot steel case ammo in semis. I have some aluminum case and that might be appropriate to keep weight down in a carry gun or whatnot.

Having said that, I think the wear issue is probably overblown. If it functions and you feel like you're getting a good deal - hell if it's the difference being shooting and not shooting - why not?

(ETA: Especially if you don't recycle brass or reload.)

Messing around with various coupon codes and whatnot and I can't see how to get it at that price. Maybe for members only.

Non-member price is only $4.08 more... $81.69. ($8.17 per 50 is still a damn good price).

You could do the free 30 day member trial also...

The one issue I've read is that the bimetal jackets (steel/copper) wear down the barrel faster than pure copper jackets. It would take 1000s of rounds to do it but if you're a high volume shooter I'd stick to brass ammo.

Aluminum is the only thing that hangs up in my Shield, and it's only 1 in 50 or so. Steel runs pretty decent for me.

Glocks will eat anything. The only thing I'd be worried about in mine is the hard primers. I've got an aftermarket trigger and striker/striker spring so light primer strikes could be an issue.

Don't use subsonic myself, but thought some of you guys that do may want to see this offer. Would think it's a good price.

That's what I'll be using it for.
