Do any of you guys in North La grow citrus trees?

I'm thinking about planting some satsuma trees around our camp in Simsboro, but don't know if they can survive the cold weather or not. I
plan on planting them under the tree canopy but along the side of a clearing where they will be protected from frost, but still get sunlight.

Is this a good idea, or am I wasting my time?

I have two satsumas that I planted 4 years ago in my yard. They have grown but aren't thriving. I hope to start getting fruit off of them this next year. Only three pieces of fruit so far

I know limes and lemons do OK in Shreveport, but I've not seen many satsuma or orange trees.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot. The reason I wanted to try satsumas is because I read they are one of the most cold tolerant oranges.

Does it not freeze just as much in South LA? Usually when it freezes in LA it's usually the entire state.

citrus does ok in CenLa, so you may be able to make it work in that area...give it a shot.

On average where is the freeze line in LA? Usually when it freezes north of Alexandria it's freezing in Baton Rouge area as well.

Thanks Jim Cantori.

I did not know that the farther north you go, the temperature does not get colder in the winter.

I would say I-10 is a good appox of the freeze line. Especially south of NO towards Venice..where all of the satsumas are..definitely much warmer than north LA

Plant somewhere where the north wind is blocked. May have to cover/lose a tree every 4 or 5 years. Had pretty good luck with a few in the yard and family's yard up in Tensas.
