Anyone fighting these invasives as well? If so how did you get rid of them? They are taking over west feliciana Parish but no one seems to know or care...

They grow over 50 feet

My neighbor has them across the back of his yard, I've been trying to kill the main tree. Damn thing has shoots off its roots. I don't know what to use, I'm open for suggestions. I read they survived Hiroshima.

We don't have any on our place but I've seen them on others. Deer love making rubs on them

If they aren't on you yet they are coming. I talked to the local lsu ag agent who told me they will eventually push out all of the native trees, etc. Where in general are you? I'm on 10 not too far out of town.

61 @ state line
I've noticed they are really bad around town. I first noticed them behind the old ball field by Sonic. They were everywhere and almost every other one had a rub on it. Think I even started a thread on here about them. Around that same time I went to look at a lease off of Hwy 10 closer to Jackson and they had a couple of stands of them. Sure enough the deer had been hooking the shite out of them too

if you have a bunch of them you can spend big money on herbicide but they will come back up from the root. I rip them out in winter with a chain on my trailer hitch
never ending battle because the birds spread the seeds and if you leave even a bit of root they'll sprout. I have tallow and privet in the back of my property and all I can do is try to keep them at bay

Someone could make some serious money starting a business just for eradicating these and paper mulberry. I'm telling everyone I know up here about them in hopes of raising awareness and slowing the spread.

But how would you get rid of them even if you caught them early
Posted on 12/24/16 at 10:57 am to FelicianaTigerfan
First you cut and spray the big tree that drops the seeds. Then pull out or mow the seedlings. Whole process takes several years, so you'd be paid for a few years per property at least

Well crap, here I am, an amateur botanist, with 8 mature ones in his yard, and had no idea they were invasive.

I've seen them in landscaping. I have to resist the urge to break them in two or knock on the door and educate the owners, lol
