Charter Fishing Trip - Is it enjoyable for people that don't regularly fish?

Currently planning an activity for the week of my wedding and I am debating between chartering a boat for all of the groomsmen to fish or to reserve a couple tee times at a golf course.

The bachelor party involved a lot of golf so I was looking to mix it up and charter a fishing trip. I have never fished off-shore and neither have a couple of the groomsmen. It seems like it would be fun, but can anyone comment on the experiences they have had with people making their first trips out? Do most people catch fish regardless of their experience level?

Wedding will be in Destin/Panama City area in late August if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Could be awesome are terrible. Your skill level won't dictate if you "do better" than other guys. You're either going to catch or not. But be sure to get patches or medicine for seasickness.

I'd say just get patches for sea sickness and everything should be fine. I went out on my first charter trip about a month ago. Seas were rough as hell, even the captain was surprised by them! That being said, it was a hell of a good time! I caught just as much fish as guys that had been numerous times. I'd def suggest doing that. Memories will last forever!

I say it would be a good time. Even if you don't think you get seasick take something any way. I haven't been sick since I was about 8 but I take something just in case, don't want to waste money on being sick.

I agree on the patch (just wanted to list other medicines). I would forgoe Dramamine and go straight to the patch. It's like insurance for your few hundred dollar trip. I get seasick pretty easily and have successfully used the patch multiple times. Also, you can drink while on the patch, just trying a lot of water too.

I usually take bonine and have been fine with the exception of 7 footers mixed with an all night drinking hangover, but still I was only feeling odd.I drink while on bonine maybe thats why,but I have never tried the patch.

My only negative about the patch is that it extremely dries me out! Sucked bad but I guess better than puking the whole day and wasting a few hundred bucks on the trip

As far as the fishing part, if the charter is any good, everybody should catch fish. The deckhand will help in that area. Patches, well lets just say have them and start wearing them 24 hours before the trip. More so if y'all are drinking a lot. Bad heads and mixed seas are like oil and water. Then don't mix.

Do have what ever y'all plan on drinking to take with y'all and a bunch of it. Cold drinks go down very easy out there. Just enjoy yourselfs.

this is true, but my head I usually bad from the night before when I step foot on a boat. As matter of fact, who's isn't ?

To the op: book a trip it will be a blast.
