Alrighty, this week I want to learn about crabbing...

I know nothing about catching crabs.... except that ya wanna stay away from the dirty lookin girls

but seriously... what time of year is the most successful for crabbing? if you were trying to catch them from the shore, where would you go? what would you use? If I had my own pier, I guess I could drop a crab trap down there, but I don't...

When I was in high school we used to go down to the dock at the end of lake road in Madisonville and catch them with a rod a reel, but I don't know what we used as bait.

string, chicken knecks (i use leg quarters cause they are so cheap) and a dip net. when the lines tight pull them in close emough to net 'em. it's about the easiest thing in the world.

We just use 2 poles with about 15 ft or so of nylon string. tie on a turkey neck every couple of feet. sit back, drink a beer, then work it like a trotline with a net.

Any specific spot? Never been down there, can you just pull over and fish/crab wherever?

Have done this in the surf with great results, but the crabs had a lot of sand in them. Probably wouldn't be an issue in Lake P. Would like to do it again. Anyone know how to get the sand out of them before cooking?

What are good areas over in Cameron, LA that can be publicly fished from shore?

You can always run over to the Rockefeller Refuge. Always hear of people doing decent off the side of Price Lake Rd.
