Carew Harris Amite river launch closed?

Anyone know what's going on with this launch being blocked by gates? It's a pretty major screwing by the hunting club if they got that road closed so they would have a publicly maintained road for their private use.

It's not publicly maintained anymore.

It is absolutely publicly maintained.
Here is the council meeting. It's a real shame what they are doing. I've been using that launch for a long time and without I am completely cut off from that section of river.

The council potentially gave up their right to it when they passed the original ordinance reverting it back to private once it reaches Livingston Holdings property. However, they should have given up rights all the way to the black top, but once again it is a case of government picking winners and losers. Hunting club has a bunch of members that were obviously in the ear of some of the council. Then there is the question of the legality of the road becoming public in the first place after they maintained it for a minimum of 3 years. There is a notice requirement in state law regarding the property owners that own the land where the road is being maintained. If the Parish did not properly notify them, the road may not actually have ever been public.
Sounds like Livingston Holdings/hunting club lease members are the ones who screwed this up for the general public. They are the ones who petitioned the council to create the ordinance that ultimately blocked access to the landing by giving up public rights to that portion of the road. Then the members get upset with the next property owner up the line who wants to limit access also. If they do have other public road access, then they may not have a claim to a servitude of passage across the Lass/Abbot property in a traditional dominant/servient estate setup. That is why they need the public access to end on their property. That way they limit access to the boat launch for the public but at the same time maintain the access to the rear of their property through the Abbot/Lass property.
Multitude of legal issues that would have to be resolved.

Whoever did the talking for the hunting club didn't do them any favors. I don't think anyone believed he was being honest about the situation and accusing the family of blocking access was a scumbag move on his part.
It's a real shame what they have done.

That particular hunting club is where a few folks that have substantial political influence are members.

That explains it all. As I said, government picks winners and losers, plenty of times that comes down to political influence.

Closing off public access to that portion of the road can be seen as crime prevention. That's a sketchy place to leave your vehicle unattended.

Does anyone know if this launch/area can be reached coming up river from Fred's? Or is it too sketchy.

River is pretty wide thru that section. No worse than any other section this far down. Friend of a friend has a camp in Horseshoe Bend almost directly across from the Carew Harris boat launch. That section of river is more heavily trafficed than you would think.

I’ve got drive up access near magnolia beach bridge. Anyone want to set something up that involves me being a float participant let me know
