Recently purchased an Xpress H22 and finished the break in period this week. Went to go WOT and all I could get out of it was 47mph and 4600rpm. That’s GPS speed. One person and a full tank of gas and nothing else in the boat. It came with a power tech 23 degree 3 blade. I know from reading other threads and forums that the RPM I’m getting is not correct but I’m also very conflicted on which direction to go for a new prop so any help would be appreciated!

My guess would be the motor height is too low. I had a 22 with the 175 show and could touch 57 with a 3 blade powertec 19p I think and 54 with the 4 blade Solas 18p. It should be an absolute rocket ship with the 200 sho

Put a Mercury Tempest Plus in that rig, should fly. Maybe a 21P?

Here’s an idea of what you should be getting:

I have a hydraulic jack plate also and messed with height for a while so I don’t think it’s that.

I would call power tech and talk to them. They are very knowledgeable about props and what they should do. I don’t see any reason why the yammy shouldn’t spin the hell out of a 23p.

Might be a dumb question but you did trim the motor right?

I went through every combo of trim and height I could.

Was 4600 the highest rpm you saw or does it just stay at 4600 no matter where you are the Jack plate and motor trim?

4600 was the highest I saw. It would fluctuate between that and 4200 while adjusting trim and jack plate

My F250 will spin the hell out of a 3 blade 21P or 4 blade 19P….but didn’t like when I went up to a 23P. Seemed to be a big jump for my setup.

200 rpm per 1 degree of pitch is the ratio, drop down to 20p or 19p. Most of those tin boat are stern heavy, would find a merc 4 blade in 19p to try.

That 200 sho should spin the hell out of a 23p. The boat hardly weighs anything. Even dropping to a 19p,in theory you would only get another 800 rpms. That would put you at 5600 which is better but i think you need to be around 6k.

Don’t know much about center console boats but I have a 25P Mercury Tempest prop on a 175 ProXs and it will turn out 5600 rpms. Motor is on a 18’ 9” Triton bass boat. I do have a Jack plate and boat trimmed out with just me and half a tank of fuel will run 64.8 mph. A 200Sho should be able to turn a 25P prop no problem. But like I said I do t know much about center consoles and how they affect rpms and what not on a motor. Running that low of a pitch prop I would think it would have that motor screaming on the high end of rpms with one hell of a hole shot.

Prop Slip calculator indicates yours to be 18%. That is rather high.

I had a similar issue that I was never able to fully resolve.

A couple things that did help reduce slip:
Prop with less pitch
Eliminated an EZ Pump (live well) pick up from directly in front of the prop. I believe this device aerated the water in front of the prop, killing the props efficiency.

Search express groups on Facebook. I’m in a few boat brand groups and people are always talking about tweaking performance with props.
