The Wild Azeal Trail also crosses along Lake Kincaid. Nice lake with a campground along it. Not sure of how the fishing is.

quote:

The Wild Azalea Trail carries the honor of being the longest hiking trail in the state. It runs from the town of Woodward to Lake Valentine. Along the trail you will pass through a variety of ecosystems. Parts of the trail are lower with hardwoods and lazy creeks creating a beautiful backdrop to your hike or mountain bike ride. Other parts are higher and hillier with the Longleaf Pines gracing your path. At 28 miles in length, the WAT (Wild Azalea Trail) can be traversed in as little as a single day for the ambitious or a multi day backpacking trip for those that want to take their time. The trail is usable all year – but the best times are from October through May when the weather is cooler. March and April are the best times to spot the Wild Azaleas for which the trail is named. The trail route is conspicuously marked with bright yellow paint blazes, and is sign at road crossings.

Chicot Lake SP has great hiking, fishing, and is closed to hunting. They have some fantastic primitive tent camping spots that require a hike in. They are typically on the ends of points in the lake. You'd have to pack everything in. Alternatively, you could rent a cabin and do the hiking and fishing comfortably.

Mung, do they allow campfires on those trails? The general rule of thumb is no fire ring, no fire.

I ask because I've though of parking my boat in remote areas near yo-yo's I had set so I could cook a hamburger patti or ribeye.

Psh, that's not camping.

So far I like the look of this place near Azalea, thanks for the ideas.

On the map I posted earlier, you can see a "P' for parking south of Lake Kincaid. you will also see primitve camping not far from there. one primitve camping area is nearly adjecent to the parking, but there is a more secluded one you will see that you can hike to. It's near the intersection of the Wild Azalea Traila and the Kincaid trail. going north from the remote primiitve spot is the Kincaid Trail which skirts the lake. I think that area will give you everything you're looking for.

including some google pics becasue I'm bored at work and thinking I may do this again. I mountian biked this area a few summers ago. spots of trail are sandy and will wear you out on a bike...
