Can't comment on the SR9c but I have the full size SR9 and love it.

Bought the SR9 about 2 months ago as my first gun. love it. go buy it, it's the best value gun for the price. I got mine at academy right before all the hoopla

Friend of mine that worked armed security had one, didn't like it but it was cheap at the time so he used it.
A pistol is fine for home defense, but take a course if you are new to gun safety, operation and cleaning of firearms. Go to a gun show or retail store and just try a bunch of different handguns. I would recommend glock, springfield, beretta, sig, s&w, CZ as some to look at. If you like 9's the CZ sp-01 phantom was recently tested against just about every element you can think of and passed with flying colors.

Just make sure to get a banana clip for it.

A full size will be easier to shoot. Look into Springfield XD, S&W M&P or hell even the full size ruger
I've owned this one for years and love it....

For home defense that means that it MUST be reliable...
HK P30L
This is what I have. If my family is on the line, I have to go with HK or Wilson Combat or Kimber

First handgun - you should not buy a semi-automatic unless you are very familiar and comfortable with guns, as in growing up shooting and handling weapons.
Find a range that will let you rent a few guns to try, get some training, and buy a revolver for your first handgun. Practice with the revolver as much as possible, and then you will know if you are ready for a semi-auto.
If it helps in your decision, my CCW is a revolver. My Glock is my truck gun.

H&k is great too, just more expensive than the others.
Also I probably wouldn't recommend a .45 for someone new to handguns.

I owned the full sized SR9 and loved it.
Glocks are popular because they're highly discounted to law enforcement (@$350 new).
Most people ask a cop when needing gun advice. Great marketing on Glock's part.
Check out Galloway Precision for the best upgrades.
Also, think about keeping your pistol in a Gunvault:

Sweet gun. I've been looking for one at a decent price for 2 months.
Good luck my friend.

I own one and it is my everyday carry and highly recommended. 3 different friends have been sold on the SR9/SR9c after seeing how easy mine is to shoot.
Here is my youtube review of it. It is VERY thorough.

EDIT: Damn hogdaddy... beat me to it by 2 minutes
Here it is with a family:

Just the man for me to ask. Can you compare the Trigger of the SR9C to the Kahr? Is that a CM9?
I've read that the Kahr trigger is smooth, but very loooong.

Yes to all of the above.
The SR9c has an exceptional trigger from the factory. It breaks between 4-5 pounds with very little takeup and has a very short reset. Personally, I think it's one of the best striker triggers out there.
The Kahr is exactly how you state it - smooth but long travel. I would compare the Kahr trigger to a double action revolver with a trigger job. It is very fluid and very smooth but has a long reset. It takes some practice but once you're used to it, the little gun is great to shoot. I think it's one of the best subcompact single stack 9mms out there.

Thanks man. I'm really going back and forth between these two guns. But since a good short trigger is my top priority, i'm still leaning to the SR9C.

I have reviews of both of them on my YouTube channel.

You can't go wrong with either one.
If you get the SR9c you also get added full-size capability with the full size 17 round magazine. It gives you 7 more rounds and a full sized grip for all your fingers. I also suggest you remove the magazine disconnect safety, but I cover that in the video.

You probably won't find one new any time soon.
try slickguns.com for best pricing.
If you buy used, try to get one with the "D" shaped magazine release instead of the round button. The round mag release models are the first generation of these, and have heavier, rougher triggers.
