I've called a few tree services and a couple of landscaping places and nobody has been helpful. The landscaping companies are wanting to sell me some sort of mixed compost. Not really what I'm looking for. Anyone have an idea where I can locate some? TIA

You know what, cancel this thread.

One of my coworkers told me to call the city. So I called Lafayette consolidated government and they have a facility where they shred tree branches and I can pick up 3 cu yards per week for free as long as I'm a resident. So, I think that's what I'll do.

Just keep in mind that all those chips are untreated and can be termite magnets...

They won't be going anywhere near my house. But thanks for the heads up.

I have a min 12" rock bed between my beds and house. My problem is I have a big pond area and a long row along the back fence that blows through some bags of mulch

Well, if I don't like the way it looks I'll probably throw it in the compost box I just built. See if I can work into some good stuff over time. If it looks good, I'll probably get extra to throw in there to at least get a good head start for next year.

Or I could continue to let my kids use it as a clubhouse.

ETA: Their hours are 7 - 2:30. So, I'll probably take a half day on Friday to go get some.

not only termites, but that stuff will introduce 50 new types of weed to your flower beds or yard.

That stuff is hit or miss. Sometimes, it is more mulch, other times it has broken down to compost. I picked up a trailer load last week and its was more mulch consistency.

Be prepared to nuke the shite out of it with round up, sedge-a-cide, and 24-D

i didn't catch what your plans are for this mulch
but I'm electrician with LUS and there are all kinds of bad shite dumped into that waste (mainly 2/4 D) and LGC uses alot of other chemicals to kill anything that grows
damn sure dont put it in your garden

Get ready for everything to die, to much tannic acid in fresh chips, especially oak

Screw it. I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a bunch of bags of no float shredded cypress from Lowes.

pooyie

I considered that. But I'm just looking to cover the ground. What exactly is in this again? I called them a while back and it was made of wood chips, manure, and a few other things if I remember.

ETA: One of the guy's I work with said the pooyie is more dirt like.

ETA2: I totally forgot about Acadiana Landscape Materials, which is not far from where I work. I just called them and they sell shredded hardwood. No dyes, no chemicals sprayed on it. I'm gonna go check that out tomorrow.

There is a place by the I-10 and 49. You have to get off there and loop back around like you are going to the old acadian hills golf course. They have bulk mulch. Sorry I cant think of the name.
If you are going to a box store wait 2-3 weeks. they will have a 3-5 for $10 sale. Buy a pallet load then.
