I figured I'd try here since he's not getting any luck anywhere else, but a good buddy of mine shot and bloodied a fine main frame 10 point he's been after in Adams county. Well he found blood and followed it a little while and found his arrow broke in half. He kept following the trail until he ran out of blood. He's sick right now and I figure his best bet would be to get a good blood dog on it first thing in the morning. The deer is a stud. Any suggestions or volunteers?

There was a guy advertising on the Baton Rouge Craigslist for this. I believe it was posted in the sporting section.

I think he got a dog on it today and followed in into a neighboring yard and lost the trail. He's sick.

Just seeing this.

For future reference I have a good dog and will travel a little ways for a price if I'm available.

Since the thread is dead it looks like, i'll derail.

How old is too old to start trying to train a dog to track blood? I'm not looking for a part time job, but it would be awesome to head home and grab the pup to find a lost deer for the younguns at camp that seem to always lose one a year.

I've got a 4 year old beagle and a 3 year old Beagle/Jack Russell mix. Great noses on both of them.

Too late?

It depends on the dog. You can't expect a fat 3 year old couch dog to all of a sudden decide it wants a job.

Just drag some liver through the yard and let them have a piece for finding it. You'll be able to tell pretty easily if they're interested or not.

I have a GSD close to 2 years old that I plan on training this season. I think it is as Downshift says, you cant expect a dog with a mostly sedentary lifestyle to want to play the game of deer tracking.
