Dropped off my lean post bench, back & livewell seat to be recovered today. $714.00 in std white and I’m still in shock at the price. Called and got a second price and it was a $100 less with a two week wait.
Maybe I should learn the trade as a side hustle when I’m not fishing.

Called upholstery place to check progress this morning and told it would be ready next week. They called me back an hour later to tell me new foam on one seat would be $50 extra and might be ready Tues.
Noon I get a call telling me all seats were ready??
Picked them up, requested a cash discount and got $50 off.
What a fukn saga!

There’s hardly anyone around the BR area that does this anymore. I used Hunts a few years ago. Quality work but had sticker shock as well. Apparently he had a six month backlog as well.

Boat upholstery are unbelievable, I looked into getting a ski boat redone recently. The cost to have the seats redone was more than the damn boat was worth.

Anything marine is absurd. Local place wanted $1200 to redo my Ttop fabric. Found the guy that advertises on the hull truth and he makes them in like Vermont or New Hampshire and you mail him the old one and it’s $219. I’ll restring it myself for $900 in savings.

I’m with you on the upholstery. They wanted $600 for mine so I’m waiting. If I take mine in as the model I don’t see how someone experienced spends more than 2-3 hours doing it and it’s not much in material cost. The problem is everyone around me is busy with redoing crap like sportfishers they don’t care.

Yup it is crazy. I replaced my leaning post and lower cushion in front of my center console and it was $1,200. Took like 3 months to come in too. Entire boat would have been almost $4,000 for a 22’ center console

Just did the same thing in April. $1170.

Leaning post & backrest and front cooler seat & backrest. Only a recover. Used existing foam backings.

Yep, and it was expensive before everything went crazy.
I got a bench seat done in a small bass boat 15 years ago and it was 650. I thought they lost their mind. Ever since then I make sure to ask a round about price on anything

My FIL has an upholstery shop that he learned as a kid from his dad. He does it on the side to keep from getting too bored in retirement and has done several boats the past few years. It's a very nice little side gig for him.

Several years ago I recovered the seats on our pontoon boat. Had a local shop do all the couch cushions and it was almost $1,000, it was cheaper to just replace the four fishing chairs with new ones as he wanted 350 per chair to recover them. 3 years later, the couch cushion still look almost new but the fishing chairs are discolored with mildew because the upholstery shop obviously used a higher quality Marine vinyl, so you get what you pay for. When my 22 ft Pathfinder needed new upholstery, I contacted the upholstery shop in Florida that is across the street from the factory and does their seat repairs. Sent her my hull ID number and for $1,000 she sent me OEM Pathfinder seat skins that I had put on. That boat sleeps inside and 5 years later those seats still look brand new. Again, you get what you pay for

Somewhere on this board is a thread about a place you send your old seat covers to and they make new ones. You just fit and staple them on.
I looked but couldn’t find it. I remember it being way cheaper.

I don’t and never will begrudge a man making a living but I can’t see the labor hours being charged to complete a simple job.

Got a somewhat cheaper price by calling the company that made me boat and ordering new. Don't forget to try this if your boat is still being made.

Couldn’t find the thread but, it was something like this…..

I don’t know if it’s a better route or not. May be worth looking into. That thread was way back before Covid. Different time.

Shipping will probably negate any savings due to size. And, god forbid they lose an item it would be cru$hing to have it rebuilt.
