So my boat trailer registration expired in 2015 (I keep this boat in the water and never use the trailer) I am wondering if you guys know what I would have to do to renew my registration. I have looked online but haven't found anything definitive. Thankful for any input!

Do you have the title, old registration, or license plate?

I have the license plate but not sure where the old registration or title is at. The boat wasn't for me initially.

Curious as well. Mine expired in 1997.

If it is registered to you, I think all you will have to do is pay back registratiin fees and you will be fine.

Depending on how much rain you guys get, you may be able to take the boat

If it was registered and titled to you it shouldn't be too hard. May cost an arm and a leg though.

If it wasn't registered and titled to you then prepare for the worst. You'll need practically an act of congress to get it in your name and registered... Oh... And it'll cost about 3 arms and 4 legs.

Go to an Express OMV with your paperwork.

Bill of sale, title, old registration, plate etc.

If you don't have any of that, be prepared to bend over with filing and duplicate fees.

So all I have so far is the plate... Would that be enough? I haven't looked good enough at my camp yet for the registration.

the only way this works then is, if the original titled owner, or someone with power of attourney for them, applies for a duplicate title mailed to them (costs $80 and takes 3-4 weeks to arrive) then you go to notary and do a title transfer and bill of sale on it, then you go to DMV and pay for new title (another $80) plus license and registration ($40 or $100 for lifetime plates)

if the original titled owner, or someone with power of attourney for them cant be there to go to notary and transfer it, its lawn furniture so forget about it

Earlier you said:

Is the title and registration in your name? If not, you're in for a world of hurt.

The title and expired registration are in my brothers name. We can not find either document. ( think we lost it in the flood). Now we are trying to sell the boat and the trailer registration is expired.

well thats no big deal then, just follow the instructions i gave. he needs to go to DMV with proof of ID and pay the $80 fee to request a duplicate title be mailed to him, after you get that, do it just as you would a normal sale

Pretty much what he said. If it's still in your brother's name, he needs to be the one to go to the DMV and renew the registration and request a new title. Once he gets all that straightened out and everything it current then yall can do a simple bill of sale or act of donation and then go to a title place or notary and take care of the transfer.

As long as it's in his name still, you can't do anything about it unfortunately.

Call a notary, you can actually talk to a real person and they'll probably be able to help you; you can't get anyone on the phone at the DMV and going there is always frustrating
