Boat Motor won't start - help

I've got a 2013 Nautical Star 2000xs with a 150 Yamaha. Over time, the motor began struggling to start. The batteries are brand new, fully charged. All of the aux functions work perfectly, radio, gps, lights, etc. When you turn the key, the battery voltage goes from full down to 0. It doesn't even try to turn over. Any suggestions on where to start. Thanks.

Repair shop, if voltage is dropping that fast (assuming new batteries are good and installed correctly) it appears you have a dead short and a recipe for a big fire.

Load test the battery (get a meter from Harbor Freight), the accessories don't need near the load of the starter. Or pull battery and take to auto parts store and have them test it....
Will be a process of elimination, start with a good battery, then test starter, then ignition switch, etc.

Sounds like a loose cable. Did you check the battery terminals?

Start with the simple stuff first. More times than not, this is the problem.

check the starter bendix/pinion gear and make sure the gear is disengaging from the flywheel when you turn the key off. The gear will sometimes stick in the up position.
It should look like this with the key off. If not then push it down and grease the starter shaft.

Try pulling the positive/ negative lines off the battery( starting battery) scrub them clean with sand paper. Had that issue, there was corrosion on the terminals. Not very noticeable, but it was there. Those motors pull a lot to crank, if there is the least bit of corrosion on them they won't crank. My stereo, vhf, and gps worked fine, but as soon as you turned the key to crank everything would die.
Also might want to think about adding another battery to your setup, one for all of your accessories, and one strictly for your cranking.

When the voltage drops to zero is that a meter on the panel or measured at the battery? If it's just the panel it could just be a bad ignition switch. Turn the key to the on position and jump the starter solenoid with a screw driver. If it turns over you probably have a bad connection somewhere between your ignition switch (could be bad) and starter. If it doesn't turn over start at the battery and work your way towards the starter looking for bad connections.

How many times have you cranked boat since you changed the batteries?

I'd check the battery terminal connections first.

Check your battery leads.
I had the same thing happen and it turned out that the cables were completely corroded on the inside even though they looked fine.

Clean and tighten all wire end fittings, trickle charge batteries back up, if it struggles to turn over then its starter probs
