Do you have a fuel filter/seperator? Might be full of water. Just throwing it out there without having more information.

Why would that make the "low oil" light come on?

Oil pump might be going bad, or it could be a bad sensor.

thermostat might be clogged up. it happened to me last year way down the homochitto river. called bryans marine and they talked me through the process of cleaning it out.

What motor do you have? Does it have an internal and external oil tank?

He didn't say light he said alarm. On certain Mercury engines the same alarm chime for low oil in auxiliary tank for oil injected motors goes off if the fuel filter seperator gets full of water.
Thanks for your contribution to the discussion though.
ETA - Going back and looking at the forum we went on to find a similar problem you could also have a saturated float in the oil that is not sensing that the tank is indeed full.

It was a continued beep. It was pissing and idling fine.
Not sure what it was, he is going to bring it back to the mechanic, ending our scouting trip before it began.

My F-250 is a solid, continuous alarm when it gets hot
Is it continuous or an on off beeping ?

First thing I do on a motor when I get it is to pull the damn thermostats out. It doesn't get cold enough in Louisiana to have to run a stat.

If it has a an engine mount oil tank you may need to bleed it.

Do you put something in its place to restrict the flow?
