Blue crab storage for boil question

I went wade fishing this weekend in a spot that had a lot of large blue crabs. I would like to return and catch some for a boil.
Can I just throw them on ice or do I need to put them in a tub of seawater with possibly an aerator? It's a 3 hour drive from where I would catch them back to my house.

What he said but keep one side elevated a little bit so the water doesn't sit in the bottom of the ice chest

and keep the lid cracked or a spacer in there like some wood to keep them from suffocating.
