Fine.

Keep your property secured so that if it flies out of the back of your truck, it does not harm anyone else.

I have no idea why this is such a heated topic. This should be pretty easy to understand. It puts the general public at risk when you have unsecured property in the back of your truck.

Because if we're going to bitch about something like this, we should also include dogs riding unsecured in the cabs of vehicles until I see evidence that dogs in the bed are dangerous while dogs in the cab are not.

You'd have to amend it to include animals in the definition of load.

My point with presenting the current law was to point out that securing things in the back of your truck is nothing new.

I'm in total agreement with you here. Little lap dogs in your face and on your steering wheel are a distraction.

Because any new law is a ploy by the government to control every aspect of your life and eventually take your guns. At least that's what I get out of most threads.

Key word in the legislation being unrestrained. I'm for it.

I agree. That can also be dangerous in that the dog can jump on or cause a serious distraction to the driver while in motion, thus putting the general public in harm.

IMO, the little shite lap dogs climbing all over the driver is more of a hazard than a happy dog in the truck bed

this x1000

It blows my mind that it is legal to have a dog free roaming inside of a car especially when the dog is climbing on the driver

I think this is a more hazardous to other drivers on the road.

Just how big a problem is the "dogs jumping out of trucks on the interstate" anyway?
Anyone seen this happen lately?

If it was worded so that all animals in transportation must be restrained, I'd be much less against it.

This is feel good legislation with no real purpose other than to appease some women.

We kenneled our dogs 90% of the time when transporting them but the other 10% of the time we had a cable hooked onto my dad's tool box in his truck. The cable was about 1.5' long where the dog could move a bit, sit, lay but could not jump out and hang himself in the process

no clue

I just think this is more of a common sense law really, and kinda sad that it even has to be made.

Give me a fricking break. Just getting on a roadway with nothing in your vehicle puts people at risk. I have a Golden Retriever that would rather ride in the back of a truck than services 50 in heat bitches in a bacon factory. The only way he's coming out is if I or somebody else causes an accident. I'm not stupid enough to ride around with a dog that may or may not bail out the back. And I don't think dogs flying out of trucks has reached such a pandemic that we have to have our nanny arse government telling us not to do it. There are morons out there who don't have sense enough to own dogs, much less let them ride around in a vehicle. But I and my dog should not be punished because of them. And it's not that I'm some huge advocate of dogs in trucks. It's just on more freedom that is being taken away from us and I don't like it.

Yea I usually tie a leash to the tiedown in my truck bed after I make him lay. Give him enough slack to move around a little but enough to jump up on the side.

And every Veterinarian in the State. This has been an issue around for years. Auburn's Vet School started a media campaign in 2007 or 08 trying to promote securing dogs.

As far as recent occurrences, I saw it happen around a month ago on i-110. Big white american bulldog bailed and became minced meat.

You aren't, but not everyone is as smart as you

I'm a small government guy. I'm all for personal freedom. But when your freedom puts others and/or my family at risk, that is when I have a problem with your freedom.

I've had a few friends have young dogs bail out the bed and frick themselves up pretty bad.

I really think this argument as a whole is too dumb to have gone 4 pages, one way or the other.
