Best way to keep blue crabs alive

Ran 10 traps over the weekend in Lake P and came away with about 150 crabs, about 1/3 of which were eatin' size. All in all it was a pretty successful haul and enough to have a nice boil Sunday.
However...the ones we caught Friday and Saturday morning and set aside in the live well (which is just a big trash can with holes we set over the side of the pier) managed to wage enough carnage on themselves that we lost probably 6-7 crabs to cannabalism, in addition to all the legs and claws that they tore off each other.
Should I just put them on ice right when I catch them? Throw some bait in the well so they get after that instead of each other? Get a bigger well? Any OB'ers have some pro tips?

The key is to keep them tightly packed so that they cant move.
Keep them cold but not too cold, put them in a big ice chest with block ice on the bottom. If you pack them in ice they try to breathe the melt water and drown/suffocate because it has no dissolved oxygen in it.

Can't get blocks of ice, but I can put them in a big ice chest on top of ice with the plug undone. As far as keeping them tightly packed, should I put something on top of them that has some weight to it so their movement is restricted?

Put them in an ice chest with the drain open. Lay a wet towel or burlap over them. Top that with ice.

When me and my father would trawl, we would place the crabs in a heavy duty trash bag and place them in the freezer until we boiled them.

Just make sure to freeze them into a coma before you throw them in the boil. This will assure they don't throw their claws when they start to cook.
