Is there a big difference in brands? If so, which is the best? looking a JD right now.

I don't think there is really much difference. I've used a bunch, and they all seem to hold up fine. The guys on side the highway all use JD ones, so they are probably the most expensive

thanks.. I know my dad is brand loyal to JD, so we'll probably get a new/used one of those.

Get a Modern Predator- all Galvanized construction, the thickest decks in the industry, real Bondioli and Pavesi gearboxes...not the Chinese stuff most of the industry uses now. 10 year warranty.

If you're a big spender- find a Schulte dealer- they make a 40' one if you have a tractor big enough.

ETA- I have a 10' Rigid Predator and I mowed a whole section of T-posts hidden in the briars a while back. Cut grass with it this weekend. No repairs in the interim. In fact, it has 10 year old gearbox oil in it. Knocked them off about 4" above the ground and spit them out the back. That's what you get when the deck frame is made out of rolled 7" channel.

Bush Hog, Rhino, Woods, JD all make a comparable batwing. You are going to pay more for the green paint but I'm sure you know that. If you want the BEST built batwing go buy a Schulte. You more than likely won't find a dealer in the south. They are made in Canada I believe.
You can't go wrong with a Bush Hog brand. They have run the market in batwing sales for years and years. Cost of replacement parts aren't nearly as high as JD and they have a dealer on every corner for service/parts.
I've worked for 2 of the above manufacturers and sold against the other two so I know all of them pretty well.

Usually given to companies who have a rep with the government, which aren't the lowest bidders. Rarely does something in Louisiana go to the lowest bidder

Landpride/Rhino/Frontier are all the same thing.

I like Woods.

Funny how few call them "rotary cutters".

Kinda like a "Xerox" copy or a "coke" for a soft drink.

Deere makes two very distinct lines, the Frontier which is comparable to Bushog, Woods, etc and the CX, MX, HX, which are of a significantly higher quality and price.
