New hunter to the area, wondering where decent squirrel hunting is, specifically about Maurepas Swamp WMA...any insight?

A lot of ppl on here seem to send BR folks to Shurburn WMA. You should kill a few there but nothing to talk about.

Really need a boat for Maurepas.
Look into Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge. Not sure on their regulations, but I've had several friends recommend it.

Thanks guys, I actually have a coworker who hunts sherburne regularly and gave me a few pointers as well. Going to check it out next weekend :)

Cat island, head there! I forget about that place. My uncle and his buddies go once a year and destroy them. I've never been but will one of these days. As for Sherburne, stay closer to I-10. The woods headed north to 190 suck

do yall know of any decent primitive camping spots...i read that sherburne has one, but the article was from 2010. still there?

Sherburne has a camping "area"
Don't expect flushing toilets
There are no water or electrical hookups. It's just a large flat area.

Are they're any unwritten rules i need to be aware of? Obviously try to distance myself from trucks/atvs and such.

Gotta shoot steel at Cat Island.
Steel shot and fox squirrels don't mix.

Don't crowd anyone is about it. And if one sees you and hides, you can flush them out a lot of the time by shaking vines.

Does a lifetime license count as self check in? then i have to fill out a check out paper? cant find much about specific rules.

Possible to print one before or do I need to get one from the self clearing stations?
Posted on 11/17/15 at 3:02 pm to jobear2391
I wasn't aware you could print the clearing permits. Some of your wma's run out time to time. I would just hand write one. With that being said, if you can print one. I would (think) you would be good to go.
