I read a few days ago about people building bat houses on their property as a way to help get rid of mosquitos. Apparently a single bat can eat up to 1000 per night and it's fairly easy to build a house to fit 4-6. Anyone done this? Did it help? Also how big did you make your house. One person did several different layers/columns to hold more bats. I'm looking for a project and this seemed like a beneficial one

Thanks

I've built some in the past. What you think will only fit 4-6 will actually hold 20 to 30. They really like to pack in, and are small as a mouse. Make sure you keep it mounted somewhere that gets plenty of sun, and make VERY sure you mount it somewhere that all the guano will not be in contact with humans in any way. It doesn't hurt to paint it a dark color. They enjoy the warmth.

They will make a huge dent in pretty much any flying insect population.

Would hate to see the Mosquitos I could potentially have then. There are swarms of bats around my house at dusk. And Mosquitos still will carry you away.
