You're probably correct that it would suffice for his stated purpose, but why not get the adl for virtually the same money and have a MUCH mote competent rifle?
She won't care and it wil make no difference in her results.

yeah my weatherby, rugers, and brownings are all way better guns. All cost over 2k too. Look the 770 .243 is fine for a limited use kids wife gun. My son killed a 135 door at 140 yards at dark last weekend. It is dead on at 100 yards. I bought the SS model, which is all i could find and is a little heavy. The bolt action is not real smooth, scope was not great but ok. I think I paid about 400 for it.

However, I would look at other models at academy or bass pro too. Bass pro really had the gun I wanted but they were sold out before Thanksagiving. I think it was an H&K or something. The rednecks at my buddies camp swear by it and they don't have a 12 year old who hasn't killed at least a few dozen deers. They be goood..

In sum, It is fine but don't pay more for it over another model you might like better just because it is a remington.

The 770 blows arse, but it is a great gun if you think a bolt should feel as though you are moving it through tar.

There are much better choices. The new Savage Edge is just as cheap and simply a modification of the time tested Savage design. The Stevens is a little more expensive and simply the 50 year proven Savage 110. The Remington 700 ADL is about $100 more. The Weatherby/Howa Vanguard can be had for around $340 and is a very good rifle by any standard.

The 770 doesn't even have a screwed on barrel. The barrel is pinned on like a cheap .22 barrel.

Looks like the 770 was an improvement over the 710. The Stevens 200 is mentioned here too:

770 review.
