What are you thinking about? Handgun or rifle/shotgun?

One of each?

Not sure. Guess I'll check out the holiday sales and see which gun appeals to me the most. I'm probably good as far as rifles go for now. A 1911 and O/U shotgun are on my wishlist though.

I would get one of each

I do need a AR though (like below) and get a new scope for my 300 WSM whenever I decide to go big game hunt

That's sweet. I could always use another AR. I have been wanting an AR10 for deer hunting. I feel like I need to buy from Cabelas now because who knows what will happen when Bass Pro takes over

I forgot about that. Is the AR 10 or 15 better for home defense or hog hunting?

I wish Cabelas had a annex store so you could go try fire a gun that you want to get before you buy it

AR15 is probably better for home defense. AR10 is much more powerful and also much more expensive to shoot. Either would be suitable for hogs I reckon

I've got a Bushmaster that I bought second hand from a cop in Tennessee a few years ago. It was his service weapon and he acquired it somehow after they were issued new weapons. At least that's what he told me.

Is there a better option for +/- $200?

Not sure. I'm not a big optics guru. Carson, igchris or someone else would probably be more helpful. I have an Eotech on mine. Probably wouldn't have been what I would have bought, but it was what came on the gun.

Think about the platform and the round each one shoots.

AR15: lightweight, intermediate cartridge, higher mag capacity, less effective at long distance

AR10: heavy, full-power rifle cartridge, lower mag capacity, longer range, capable of defeating barriers

One is set up for home defense where the other is set up for hunting and longer ranges. Imagine trying to maneuver a 9-10 pound AR10 in a house - it would be very cumbersome. Not to mention that 308 at short range would almost guarantee a pass-through and you'd have to worry about that bullet passing through multiple walls.
