I'll be around lafayette this weekend and want to get the wife/kids on a few perch. Anywhere within a 45 min drive from breaux bridge safe to run a 20' bay boat? I know low water in the basin makes it sketchy.

If you are just looking to do a little trolling, looking for Brim or Sac-a-lait, you could launch at McGee's Landing. From the launch take a right down Bayou Larose. Beat the tree line with crickets or jigs. We've caught up and down there all the way to the dead end past the camps.
Or you can leave McGee's and head Northeast down the boat channel. It'll take you straight to Lake Bigeaux where you can work the tree lines there.

The Boulevard (area all along the levee north of McGees) is also usually good for bream.

McGees was recently bought by the Boy Scouts. Not sure if you can still launch there. Try Kern's or Basin Landing if you need to. You will have no problems putting that boat in at either of those.

Stopped by McGee's over the weekend to see if we could get the scoop. Yes the launch is still open and they are still running swamp tours. The building is going to be demolished any day now and replaced with a full Marina. They will also be building a 300 room dorm, sounds like it will be a top notch place once completed.

Good to know. Hopefully they'll fix up the boat ramp too. There's a large pothole in the ramp somewhere near the middle. It's under the water, so you can't really see it. But my trailer tire got caught in it one time and I almost couldn't get the boat out of the water.
