I just ordered Montana decoys for bow hunting. Was wondering what were your thoughts on using decoys for early to pre rut bow hunting? Any experiences good or bad? Thanks!

it's all about the right time

October and early November here is not the time to use a decoy. It's used right before the rut when bucks are getting very aggressive

ETA: it's not something I'd recommend for bowhunting down here unless you're bowhunting in the rut

I agree. Sorry I should have mentioned that I got these to use in Nebraska during pre rut! Anyone else would like to chime in?

Pros: It may get a buck's attention and bring him in

Cons: Does may come up to it and notice something is off and blow you out

I haven't used one but I have been considering it in Illinois. Could be fun

I've got a buddy who uses the blow up doll style deer decoys. He inflates them with an air compressor on his Ranger and then sets them up. Its a little 6pt with his nose up a doe's cooch.

It works like a charm. He has great video of nice bucks charging the decoys and T-boning the 6pt. He almost has me convinced.

Doe Decoy quarters away from your stand because bucks will usually approach them from the rear giving you a quartering away shot.

Buck decoy quarters towards your stand because other bucks will usually approach them from the front giving you a quartering away shot.

Be sure to spray them off after you set them up
Good Luck
