I’m hearing from a couple local retailers that their customer service has gone to shite since being bought out and it’s taking up to 6 months for replacements to come in? For those who have used lately, Is this true?
ETA: sounds like costa is circling the drain. What brands do y’all recommend?

It’s absolute trash. It used to be great. They won’t honor standard warranty claims now and this is why the have a class action case against them.

What happened in your case? Wife wants a pair but I’m thinking of looking at other brands now

Smith Optics. Sent me a $220 voucher to replace a 3 yr old pair that broke at the hinge.

I sent a pair in not too long ago. The rubber was coming off and a cracked lens. They wanted almost the cost of a brand new pair to repair. Plus shipping was on my dime. I was pretty disappointed in Costa.

I used it a few months back. No problems. Got a new pair sent to me.

My experience as well. Bought a pair and the lenses popped out. Sent in paperwork and given $220 towards new pair
I sent my costas back a few years back and they sent me a new pair.
*Main problem I've had with Costas is the rubber pieces on bridge and arms always fall off due to the adhesive failing. I understand it has something to do with sunscreen and heat but I'm not going to discontinue wearing sunscreen or fishing during the 8 months it's hot outside

Ive been hearing all the same things about "new costa"... At the end of 2020, my wife sent hers in and we held our breath. Two weeks later they emailed and say that her model is discontinued, so they gave her a few options to choose from. Sent her a brand new pair. We were very impressed.
The "old costa" was incredible. They replaced my glasses three times for the cost of shipping.
I've since switched to Smith Optics and Hobies. Both brands have been outstanding. Time will tell how their customer service is tho.

When I eventually lose my current pair of Costas in the drink offshore I will be replacing with something else. Apparently Costa has gone to shite since being bought out like others have said.

Same here. I figured I would get a decent bill to repair but they replaced fir free. Pretty good experience for me.

Year to a year and a half ago Costa was the best I could have experienced.
Maui Jim was the one that pissed me off recently.

Just did it on 2 pairs. They were both 5+yes old and discontinued, but the arm snapped on the double hauls and the rubber melted off my camo fantails.
Sent them pictures of the glasses per their service request on the 27th of March, they’re out for delivery today.

I disagree with that completely and when I see things like this I wonder how much is based on firsthand experience vs. hearsay. I have had 4 warranty requests approved by Costa in the last 12 months without any issue at all, and honestly, it’s a lot easier now than it used to be. They converted one of my “repair” requests to a warranty request when I dropped my glasses on concrete per my own fault and scratched my glass lenses. I expected to have to pay for a new lens. Couldn’t believe it. I have had a brand new pair of glasses in my hands every time I submitted a warranty claim within 2 weeks of submitting the claim, at no cost to me.
Now, you upload photos to their warranty portal when you are filling out your request. They tell you before you even mail the glasses if the warranty request is approved. They then send you a prepaid label to ship to them. Everyone told me the new Costa warranty sucked. That has not been my experience at all. Exactly the opposite.
I have tried Smith glasses but their chroma pop lenses are a lot more difficult to clean than Costa 580g. They smear a lot. This matters a lot when trying to clean them quickly on a boat or walking a bonefish flat where everything is salty/wet already.
ETA: honestly the “new” costa warranty is a lot better than the old in the sense that with the old warranty, you always had to pay at least $11.00 for shipping and service fee. Now, they pay for shipping.

Used it about 6 weeks ago. Claimed my exact model was discontinued (frame color) so they gave me 5 options all had plastic lense except for one and that one was a terrible frame color. My originals were green glass lenses. They only gave me option of blue plastic lenses except for the one glass option (also blue)

Same here. Sent in to replace nosepiece and side rubbers on top of the ears. They sent back a brand new pair.

If its a true warranty item like a nosepiece or rubber falling off then their warranty is still fantastic. Just send you a new pair.
If you break them, then their new charges are expensive. I slammed a pair in my hood on my truck closing it and it broke a hinge and a lens. They wanted $80 for both repairs, $80 for the lens and $80 for the hinge. So it was like $175 after shipping. Which I wanted a different style so I was better off just buying a new pair for basically the same price of the ones I wanted.
It used to be that basically no matter what the issue was they would send you a new pair for the cost of shipping.
Does it suck? I wouldn't say that, just not fantastic like it used to be.
ETA: I mean I had a buddy that was "tipped" a pair in college when we waited tables and had a group of guys that fished. (Yes odd tip but he literally handed them over (yes kinda homo)). Anyway, my buddy stepped on them like 6 months later and sent them in and they shipped him a new pair. So lets be honest, that sort of warranty work is also way above and beyond.
