I guess a 5x8 would do? What about brands and who has the best prices around Lafayette-Baton Rouge?

I would just check out craigslist, etc. save some money. Most people rarely use their trailers.

Yeah, can't get a good one for under $1k. Unless you buys the cheap Lowes/Home Depot ones.

I bought a 5x8 this year - spent way to much time trying to figure out what I needed and looking at different variations of smaller trailers - in the end I found a used trailer from TSC, cost me $300 and haven't had any issues for what I needed it for.

5x8 is fine for an atv. For a side x side you need a 6x10

I did quite a bit of research in this area last summer.
I'll pass along what I learned.
5' wide is plenty for an ATV but you will wish it was bigger if you ever get a side by side.
8' long is plenty for 1 ATV with front and back racks... if you ever get another for a spouse or child you will need a 14' long trailer to get both back to back.
If you try to go shorter and wider thinking you will put 2 ATV's sideways on a trailer it is a major PITA unless it has a side ramp.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a brand new Big Tex 5' x 14' when I ended up finding a good deal on a used 6.5' x 10' Top Hat trailer from a friend that wanted to sell it.
I think the Big Tex trailer was the nicest trailer I looked at for the money. The wiring on their 30SA trailers were all internal to the frame (not hanging under the trailer) and the brake lights were all mounted into the rear frame bumper. They don't stick out of the sides like most cheaper trailers.
Also be aware that if you are purchasing a used trailer the title transfer fee is around $75 NO MATTER WHAT VALUE YOU BUY THE TRAILER FOR. And if the trailer already has permanent tags they are NON TRANSFERABLE so you will pay another approximately $75 for that too.
I paid $800 for my trailer and ended up paying another $200 just to transfer it into my name.
Overall I am happy with my purchase... I just wish the state hadnt corn-holed me for the extra $200.

meh, throw in stands or few ice chests and gear etc... get the bigger one.

I have a 5x8 from Lowes only because my brother used it back in the day to haul a lawnmower. I only use it to go a few miles to my lease with a 4x4 rancher. It fits fine but if i needed to bring anything else it gets tight quick.
I use my FIL's 5x10 to go to our place in franklinton - only plus here is a little more length to put gear.
These arent used often or are a huge necessity. If you need one for frequent use with large items (SXS or multiple atv's) and 2 ice chest and a ladder stand and so on...get a 6x12-14'. The 6' wide will be worth more than you realize

Seriously, always get a bigger trailer than you think you need. Price difference isn't much, so go with a 6x12 or something

my 5x8 is a PIA to back up. makes me look like a jack arse sometimes. I have to anticipate the trailer shooting off to the side and try to correct before it happens

Unfortunately, sneezing on the damn steering wheel will make mine all jacked up. If I could see it out of the back, it would help. Watching a trailer that you can't see through the side mirrors doesn't work that well

this guy here!!!
towing mirrors w/ a teenie weenie trailer.

I couldn't see my boat trailer when the boat was off the trailer. I ended up buying an 18" extension for the receiver hitch. Probably coulda got away with the 12" one but it makes it a lot easier to see the tail of the trailer.
I can also open the tailgate now without worrying about crushing it on the hitch post.

So the 5x8 is harder to back up because you can't see it?
Posted on 2/1/16 at 3:33 pm to LSUlefty
That and the shorter wheelbase makes it harder. Never know when it's gonna decide to shoot out one way.

I went to look at those today. They are very well constructed. I think I'm going with the Pro Pull. They are well build, but a little less than the Big Tex.

Yup. Much easier with something tall in it. I wouldn't call it easy, but it honestly isn't that bad because I have been doing it with that same trailer for 15 years. Longer trailers are 10x easier because they don't react as quickly
